This story is now officially complete. I thank you all immensely for your support over the course of the months it has taken me to write it, and hope that you have all fully enjoyed my work! It really means a ton.

[UPDATE] I have recently written an alternate Origin story, a more scientific point of view, which you can check out HERE. I hope you enjoy both of my stories, as I am proud of them!

Hey guys, it's stormconure. This is my very first story. Hope you enjoy it!

My original intent of this thread was a story of the Lihzahrds. They seemed like a cool ancient civilization that I could write an interesting story about. Then as I thought about it some more, I realized that many of the aspects of Lihzahrd Mythology apply to other aspects of the game as well. So I thought, why not just write a story about how everything in Terraria came to be? Well, here is my short story on the religion aspect of Terraria.

PART ONE: THE CREATION
This is how the world of Terraria was created and how its living creatures came to be.
Long ago, two omniscient gods ruled Terraria, bringing everything in nature to life. One was Anubis, the god of the Sun and all things light; the other, Cthulhu, was the god of darkness and all things evil.

When the World was first created, Anubis claimed one portion of it for himself and created a biome full of light, later dubbed the Hallow; Cthulhu claimed another portion, a biome of disease and evil, later named the Corruption. The rest of the world was neutral ground, and both gods made sure the other didn't try to claim any of it; however, occasionally, the gods would spread their biomes by just a little bit, careful not to be noticed by the other. This was the origin of the Terrarian world as we know it today.
Anubis filled the world with thriving creatures of all types, suited to each biome. One of the many species was the Lihzahrds, the first intelligent life. They recognized Anubis for creating them and built a temple out of the strongest material in existence in order to worship him. They devoted their entire lives to Anubis, and built a mighty Golem to defend his sacred altar. It was stated that this golem could take on any challenger and come out victorious, no matter the odds.

However, Cthulhu was jealous of Anubis for having so many followers. He created an army of evil warriors that had the ability to fly around and steal the souls of the good, called the Eaters, and their leader, a worm that could destroy the land of those who opposed it. But Cthulhu's plan failed horribly. With their corrupted minds, these creatures went rogue, and went out of the control of even Cthulhu himself.

Because of this Cthulhu got even angrier. He challenged Anubis to a battle. As he was much more powerful, Cthulhu won the battle easily. He destroyed Anubis and banished his spirit to the Underworld forever, killing off the Hallow as well. Cthulhu then cursed the temple of the Lihzahrds to sink far into the earth. The Lihzahrds locked the temple, and have been concealed there ever since. However, there was something else Anubis had left behind that Cthulhu completely overlooked: a new intelligent race, the Humans.

PART TWO: THE HUMAN RACE
We now move on to the second part of the story, in which man takes over the world.
The Humans thrived, and built a village far beyond the technology of the Lihzahrds. For they surpassed the Lihzahrds in the aspect of intelligence by far. The Humans established a trade system, with many different jobs, such as merchants, mechanics, historians, and blacksmiths.

By the time Cthulhu realized what had developed, the Humans had already established such a strong grip on the land that the god would have a lot of trouble destroying them. They had occupied pretty much the whole world, except the Corruption; old cabins remained underground, and villages dotted the landscape. Cthulhu attempted to destroy mankind, but a single man stood up to him. The man was very old, and not afraid to die. "Do whatever you want to me, Cthulhu!" he yelled. "Just don't destroy our race!"

"Nothing stands in my way," Cthulhu said. "As punishment for opposing me, I will inflict upon you something worse than death". Then the god built a mighty underground fortress, and cursed the man to guard it for all eternity. Only someone who could defeat the monster inside the man could free him of the curse. Cthulhu then destroyed all of the villages in the land, thinking he was killing off the humans. It took a long time, but eventually the land was completely clear.

However, unbeknownst to Cthulhu, the rest of mankind had escaped across the Mighty Ocean to a land far away, waiting for someone they called "the chosen one"...
With another of Anubis' creations vanished, Cthulhu felt he was free to take over the rest of the world. He thought that with effort, he could regain control of his Eater minions. However, the Eaters had been corrupted for so long that they only answered to one leader: the supreme worm, the Eater of Worlds. The worm wanted nothing more than to keep anything and everything out of its biome, and Cthulhu was no exception. The god tried to resist, but the army of eaters was too big and too evolved. The more of them Cthulhu destroyed, the more they came. Eventually the eaters got the better of him.

Cthulhu exploded, casting his body parts all over the realm. His eye took a mind of its own and flew off, while the rest of his body and blood fell onto a forest biome in shambles, forming a new biome, later called the Crimson. Cthulhu's hundred hearts became encased in stone, and his brain was hidden deep inside the depths of the Crimson. His spirit fell into the underworld, to join the spirit of Anubis...
After several years, the Humans had become much stronger. They had decided that it wasn't worth waiting for a Chosen One; instead, they were going to attempt to defeat Cthulhu by themselves. To do this, all of the mechanics and steampunkers worked together to make three monstrous robots. The first was a pair of eyes, representing Cthulhu himself. One eye fired lasers, while the other fired inextinguishable flames.
The second robot was a massive mechanical worm, representing the giant worm Cthulhu had created to defend the corruption. It was capable of destroying anything in its path.
The third was a massive skull with four weaponized limbs, to represent the monster Cthulhu had put inside that poor old man. It was capable of obliterating everything, if only it could get some solar power.

The Humans returned to the mainland ready to fight Cthulhu, but, of course, he was already dead. They figured that because of that they were no longer in danger, so they put the unused robots deep underground, so nothing, not even they, would find them. However, they couldn't have been more wrong; in just a few weeks, they would need more help than ever...

PART THREE: THE GREAT ADVENTURE
This section brings the playthrough together with the rest of the story.
It had been years since humans had visited the mainland, and upon arriving there, they realized that not one of them remembered the art of building. Their master architects had been very old and since passed, and building became a lost art. They also realized that night was coming soon, and each of them needed a place to stay. They started to explore the underground for a good place, but because it was a confusing mess of tunnels and caves, they all got separated from one another after a while. The only way for them to find one another was to go back to the surface, and even then the chances were slim. Each decided to stay put until they found a suitable place to live.

One day, a new person found his way to the mainland. He had been living on the island when the humans left for the mainland, and wanted to follow them. This man, unlike the others, was a skilled builder. He built himself a nice house and slept through the night. When he woke up, there was a kid standing next to his bed. "Whoa, who are you?" he asked.
"Well, I was a historian before our civilization broke apart," said the kid. "I know this place pretty well now. It's been years since I went to the surface, but seeing a new house, I had to get to it before someone else did. If you would build some more houses, I would be happy to guide you around the area."
"Why more houses?" asked the newcomer, "and what do you mean your civilization fell apart?"
"Well," said the kid, "we came here without a place to live and all got separated. If more houses were built, maybe the others would notice and we would be reunited!"

So the newcomer built a village. He gathered more civilians, including a merchant, a nurse, an explosive dealer, and a gun expert. The village was growing fast, until something happened that threatened the lives of all the people in the village.

When Cthulhu's eye was detatched from his body, it gained a mind of its own that had the same deep desire the god himself had; to destroy all of Anubis' creatures once and for all. Its first target was the village full of humans. One night, the eye came to the village when all of its inhabitiants were asleep. However, the newcomer could feel its presence in his bones. He knew what to do.

The newcomer woke the people of the village and told them to be on guard. He then pulled out an ice-covered boomerang he had found on his first day on the mainland. As the eye approached, the villagers sreamed and ran, but the man stood his ground. He threw his boomerang with all his strength, over and over, cutting and slicing at the eye. It was a long fight, but eventually the warrior was victorious.

The newcomer was no longer considered a newcomer; he was now the protector of the village. He went on to defeat many enemies, and eventually beat the horrid corrupt worm, the Eater of Worlds. Then he came to the dungeon at night. When the old man saw him, he instantly transformed into the beast inside him, a terrible skull head with two floating arms. It was a very hard fight, but finally, the warrior threw the boomerang one last time, and Skeletron was defeated at last.

The Guide, having previously been a historian, recognized this warrior as the Chosen One from ancient legends. The village finally had a protector, for the myths stated that the chosen one would protect the village successfully for as long as he lived. The citizens were very excited to hear this news.

The old man, glad to be rid of his curse, joined the village at once. However, the warrior wasn't finished. He went down into the dungeon, found some epic new gear, and even saved another person from her certain doom of starving to death in that awful place. Once he had all he needed, the warrior returned to the village. He thought his work was done. He was wrong. His journey was far from over...
One day the warrior was walking around outside when he started falling. He looked up and realized the hole he was in had never been there before. It took him several minutes to finally reach the bottom. When he did, he hit hard. He sat up and looked around. The place he was in was a very dark place with lava pools everywhere. He could hear screams all around him, but couldn't tell where they were coming from.

Sitting on the ground next to him was a doll that looked very similar to the guide that was by his bed that first morning. He reached down to pick it up, but accidentally kicked it. It went tumbling down a cliff and fell in a lava pool. Oh well, the warrior thought.

The ground started to shake. Something was coming from behind him. As the warrior turned around, he saw something more terrifying than anything he had ever seen: a massive moving wall with several eyes and mouths protruding from it. And it was coming straight for him. He started to run but realized too late that there was no escape. Then he had a crazy idea. He was going to try to kill this thing.

The warrior threw his boomerang over and over, and it seemed to be working, but the wall just kept coming. However, he persisted, as he knew if he didn't kill this Wall of Flesh, it would kill him. After several minutes, the fight was over. The wall exploded, leaving behind a box of loot which the warrior collected, but what interested him more was the other thing left behind.

Two balls of light, one white and one purple, were floating in the air. They started to spin around each other, then shot toward the surface, leaving behind trails of strange looking stone.

The balls of light, as the warrior saw them, were spirits of light and dark. He was right, in a way, but was missing a major detail. These were the spirits of Anubis and Cthulhu, released from the underworld as the Wall of Flesh was defeated. The gods had returned, stronger than ever...
The world had gone crazy. By the time the warrior came back to the surface, the Corruption and the reawakened Hallow were spreading like wildfire. The warrior had just about given up on trying to control them; it just couldn't be done. Then the guide revealed a secret.

The guide knew how to reawaken the robot warriors created by the people back on the far away island. All the warrior had to do was find some materials and hammer them together. So the warrior set out on a journey. He gathered new ores, and created armor from cobalt, an anvil from mythril, and a forge from adamantite. He then set out to get materials. The first thing he did was use a Mechanical Eye to summon the two great eyes representing Cthulhu, The Twins.

The eyes came. The warrior tried to instruct them to go and destroy the spreading Corruption, but they didn't listen. Instead, they started to fire lasers and flames and everything in their arsenal at the warrior. The townfolk were very confused. Why would their own creation turn on them?

As it happened, the place where the robots had been buried had since been taken over by the Corruption. The evil of the biome had changed the robots' programming to kill all living things, as Cthulhu had desired. After a very long fight, the warrior managed to destroy the robot menace. He collected very high quality materials from these two eyes, some Hallowed Bars, which he then used to craft the best armor he had ever seen.

Still not knowing why the Twins had tried to kill him, the warrior tried summoning the mechanical worm, known as the Destroyer. Yet again, it attempted to kill him and all of his friends; but as before, the warrior came out victorious. The same happened for the great mechanical skeleton, Skeletron Prime.

At the end of all three battles, the warrior was left with many materials that he used to craft very high tier equipment. He finally had the ability to keep the two spreading biomes under control on his own. He had taken over the world. Who knows what kind of challenges he will face next...

PART FOUR: THE CONQUERING OF THE JUNGLE
The warrior spreads his reign to the Jungle, his final step toward ruling the world.
When the spirits of Anubis and Cthulhu rose from the underworld, both of them happened to create their biomes right near the jungle. The Lihzahrds, still alive in their concealed temple, felt the presence of Anubis and celebrated him. Because of this, Anubis kept the Hallow from spreading to the jungle, to protect the sacred land of the Lihzahrds. However, Cthulhu was not so generous. He took the corruption straight into the jungle, in an attempt to destroy all of its living things; however, this was a slow process, as jungle grass is very resistant to evil. It wasn't until after the warrior had defeated all three mechanicals that Anubis noticed Cthulhu raiding the jungle. He knew he couldn't challenge Cthulhu himself, from past experiece.

But Anubis wasn't going to give up without a struggle. He formulated a plan that would defend the jungle and the Lihzahrd Temple simultaneously. The key to the temple was hidden deep in the jungle, but he knew that if left unprotected, Cthulhu would obtain the key and destroy both the jungle and the Lihzahrds. So Anubis hid the key inside of a flower. He then used growth magic to bring the flower to a mounstrous size. The flower grew grappling hook-like tendrils, and gained a mind of its own. This was the birth of the monster known as Plantera. Anubis knew he would never be able to control Plantera directly, but he could influece it. Plantera placed small flower bulbs all through the jungle, which it guarded well. Anubis called upon more of his powers to move one of these bulbs right next to the Corruption.

When Cthulhu went farther into the jungle, he took no notice of the small pink bulb that was crushed by the Corruption's evil influence. What he wasn't expecting was an attack from a giant plant. Plantera was enraged because Cthulhu had destroyed its bulb, and it completely obliterated that section of corruption that was destroying the jungle. Plantera then retreated back to the depths of the jungle, waiting for another challenger...

...

The warrior was walking in the jungle a few days later, and noticed a large pink flower about half his height just sitting there. He decided to pick it up to take back to the village. Instead, it was destroyed by his pickaxe. The warrior thought nothing of it, until he was charged by Plantera. He had no idea what to make of this monster, so he decided to see if he could escape it. It was too fast for him. He tried to hide. It could go through the ground. His only option was to fight. By then, he had a pack of light discs, which proved very effective; he threw them over and over, cutting and scarring the plant. After several minutes, Plantera's flower was destroyed. The warrior thought he had defeated Plantera, but in reality, all he did was make it mad. Plantera charged at him with a thorny mouth spread wide open. The warrior was caught off guard and would have been chopped in half, but he threw his light disc at just the right moment; it hit Plantera straight in the mouth. This did significant damage, but still wasn't enough to stop it. The fight went on for several minutes afterward; eventually, at one heart of health, the warrior threw the killing strike. Plantera had been defeated.

In Plantera's remains, the warrior found powerful weapons, along with a key. When he turned around, he realized that he ended up right next to a huge dark orange temple, with a hole in the door. He decided to try the key. It fit perfectly. The door slowly opened...
Though the Lihzahrds were less intelligent than the humans, they had something the humans never knew of: the magic of the Sun. Their sacred god was Anubis, the Sun god, who gave them some of his own magic power. The Lihzahrds concealed this power in small glass cases and built many powerful weapons with it. Some of these were a ray that could penetrate anything, a band that turned sun energy into offensive capability, and a hatchet that when thrown would chase after its foes.

However, when the temple was cursed to sink into the ground at the hands of Cthulhu, the Lihzahrds hid these weapons in a magic altar and put the remaining power cells in chests. They then built a massive sun-powered Golem. Anyone who wanted to get these weapons had to power up the altar using a power cell, then defeat the Golem, which was said to be impossible. This golem was the most powerful thing the Lihzahrds had ever seen, so they figured that nothing could stand in its way. However, that theory was never proven, as they have been locked in their temple since they were cursed to sink. Locked, that is, until now...

...

The door slowly opened. As the warrior looked inside, all he saw was pitch darkness. He got out some torches and started to place them all around himself. What he saw amazed him. The temple was filled with statues and furniture, and the large room he was in led to several hallways which he couldn't see into. As he stepped inside and the door closed behind him, the warrior heard something. It was like footsteps coming from one of the many hallways. He realized with a start that he wasn't alone in the temple. Something was coming. The noise started to get louder. Then several pairs of white eyes appeared from many of the hallways. The warrior heard whispering in a language he couldn't begin to understand. Then the owners of the eyes leapt out and charged him.

His persuers were humaniod lizard creatures dressed in loincloths, and they could run. They were extremely fast. The warrior got out his ivy whip and shot up to the ceiling, but he was charged by winged snakes. He knew, as always, that the only way out was to fight. He threw his light discs over and over, wounding one lizard after another, when they all stopped and stared at him. They no longer seemed hostile, but rather curious. One walked up to him and put its hand (or paw?) in the air. "Ana boowa liche yo Lihzahrdef", it said. "Si waso gou tre?"
"Uhh, sorry, what?" said the warrior. Then something tapped him on the back. He turned around. There was the strange creature he had found on one of his previous adventures, the one who claimed to know voodoo magic.
"He said 'We are the Lihzahrds. Who are you?'" said the Witch Doctor. "I was once one of them before I was kicked out for my unorthodox religious beliefs."
"Ok, tell them I am a human and that I meant no harm to them," said the warrior. "I just wanted to explore their temple to see what it was." The Witch Doctor turned to the Lihzahrds and whispered some things back and forth in the strange language. After a few minutes the Witch Doctor turned back to the warrior.
"They want to take you to the center chamber," he said. "They think you may be worthy of taking on the one they call the Guardian."

So the Lihzahrds took the warrior to the deepest room in the temple. It was a long walk, and the warrior couldn't see a thing. Suddenly he was told to stay still. A light flicked on and he was left staring at a massive chamber with a small structure right in the center. At the back was a stone statue of a giant in a strange pose. A Lihzahrd walked up to him and handed him a strange looking capsule that emitted light. He said something in his own language and shoved the warrior forward toward the center whatever-it-was.

A light appeared above the thing. It sucked the glass capsule out of the warrior's hand. The capsule broke, suspended in midair. A ball of light resembling a small sun erupted from it. The light then shot toward the statue at the back of the room. The statue's eyes lit up and it jumped forward...

This was like nothing the warrior had ever seen. He had no idea what to do other than attack. As there was nowhere to hide, he ran around in circles throwing his light discs. It didn't seem to work very well, but what it did was make the golem mad. The head started firing lasers and its fists shot towards the warrior, who dodged every attack. This went on for a very long time, but the warrior didn't give up. He continued to attack, over and over, until finally a small explosion erupted from the golem. Its fists were obliterated and its head popped off. He thought the battle was over, but the golem's head rose up from the floor and sped around, still attacking. All that was left of the body was a ruined structure with a yellow glowing capsule on top. The capsule was the golem's power source. If only he could destroy it...

The warrior pulled out a sword he had kept in his inventory for emergencies. He had obtained it from the dungeon long ago, and though it wasn't very powerful, it was very fast. He swung it over and over, until he finally got a perfect hit. The muramasa went straight into the slit in the capsule. Something broke inside and the golem exploded. In its remains he found what looked like beetle shells, as well as a strange looking hatchet.

The lihzahrds went crazy. They fled, fearing the warrior would kill them too. However, he wasn't out to destroy them. He had all he needed. With one flash of his magic mirror, he was out. As he looked up at the sky back home, he heard something very strange. Chants were echoing from the Dungeon...

PART FIVE: THE OTHERWORLDLY TERROR
Something comes from out of this world... And it's all up to the warrior to stop it!
Cthulhu had been defeated. Nobody in the world had any doubt about that. But not everyone was particularly happy about it.

There lived a group of people a long time ago who rebelled against the good god of Light, and had chosen to join the dark side. However they were barely remembered in the history books of the humans, because of how quickly they were banished from their city. Little did the civilization know that they lived on. And they were thriving.

The followers of Cthulhu had gone and hidden deep within the Dungeon where no explorer could ever find them, and having been there for so long they withered away over time until they were nothing more than dark spirits with glowing eyes. In order to keep in some sort of human form they covered their bodies with thick, hooded cloaks. By joining with evil and yet still resisting being corrupted by it, the cultists learned great power, and kept the secrets of it to themselves, to be used when it was necessary. And when they did, it threatened the remaining inhabitants of the world...

As it happened, Cthulhu and Anubis had yet another brother. He was Cthulhu's twin, less powerful than either of the two main gods, and before he could get a grip on the world to begin with his brothers had already taken over. But this god wouldn't let a minor defeat discourage him. He left the world of Terraria to find a new domain to rule. And what he found was the perfect distance away- 240,000 miles, to be exact- so he could keep watch on Terraria from a safe distance: the Moon.

After Cthulhu's defeat, his followers had a new plan. They wanted to awaken the old forgotten god, and summon him down to earth to take Cthulhu's place as the god of darkness. They came to the surface, near the Dungeon's entrance, and started to chant and dance- an evil ritual they had learned quite some time ago for summoning Cthulhu. Only this time, they wanted to summon the ancient Moon Lord. And their dance would have worked- had they not been interrupted.

...

The warrior started to run. Whatever the heck this chanting was, he just HAD to go check it out. He zipped over to the dungeon with insane speed, only to find a group of hooded figures circled around what seemed to be a shrine. Except this shrine was floating in midair. And it seemed to be getting charged up. Was it the chanting that powered it? The warrior had seen many strange things in his life, but nothing quite like this. He got closer. The chanting stopped. All of the figures turned around and looked at him. Their glowing yellow eyes seemed to pierce right through him... And then the charged. They didn't seem very menacing- all they seemed to do was throw a few punches- and the warrior defeated them fairly easily. All except... One. This cultist stood still, seemingly unharmed by attacks, and started to absorb the power from the floating circular shrine-emblem-thing. Then, suddenly, the shrine exploded. The cultist seemed to have put on a raven mask. Then, before the warrior could get a better look, he teleported...

It took the warrior a while to find the cultist, but when he did the situation didn't get much better. It turns out that this cultist could float in midair. And he had a whole arsenal of spells up his sleeve. "Meh, just another battle," thought the warrior. After hours of dodging lightning bolts, fireballs, ice fragments, and void spells, the warrior finally dealt the killing blow. The cultist fell to the ground. It seemed like an old glowing crafting bench came out of the cloak's pocket, along with other things. The most noticeable were four glowing balls of light- one blue, one green, one purple, and one orange- and they shot off into the world, never to be seen again. Little did the warrior know how much his world was about to change...
The Universe is far older than the world of Terraria, and long ago, back in the early days of the universe, the gods that ruled were immensely different from the two that we have come to know. There were four of them: Stardust, Nebula, Vortex, and Sun. These gods were constantly at war with one another, and they created armies to defend them. However, as the gods themselves were little more than spirits, they each created a tall, defensive structure which they would exist inside. These were called the Pillars of Creation, and it was said among Humans that if you saw one of the pillars in the sky travelling across the universe, then doom and destruction would soon come your way. Thankfully, nobody had ever seen one. Their universal voyages had never caused them to cross paths with the planet of Terraria. That is, until now...

When the Cultists were finally defeated, the energy they had kept secret for so long was released into the world. This energy truly was powerful, as it was a combination of tiny bits of the energy used by the four gods to create the universe. It encircled the world, creating a glowing aura around it that could be seen from a long way off. It seemed like nothing to the inhabitants of Terraria, but to the gods of the universe, it was like a calling card.

The four pillars started to move at a high speed towards Terraria. Finally, they all converged at one point- near the village- and spread out around the area. They all started to generate creatures representing their powers to attack one another. All out war had returned. And the human village was caught right in the middle...

...

The warrior was having a really crazy day. He saw the pillars touch down and instantly his world was being torn apart by monsters he had never seen before. With nowhere to go, his only option was to fight them all off. If he didn't stop their war, the whole world would be destroyed. He immediately started to fight off the monsters. More kept cpming, but it seemed to have a strange effect on the pillars when he killed them. The shields surrounding them were getting weaker. Then suddenly he had a crazy idea. If he could just weaken the shields enough...

After a long time it seemed that the shields were down. The warrior went in for the next phase of his plan. He cut and slashed at the pillars with his sword, and though they were made of space metal, it seemed to be working. He finally cut through one and it exploded. It dropped several strange-looking shards, and a bright orange ball of light shot of into space. The Solar Pillar had been destroyed. But the fight was far from over. It took a long time, but the warrior finally managed to destroy them all. He used what he found in their remains to craft new weapons, and the villagers celebrated him for destroying the greatest threat to them yet. Little did they know, a much more powerful enemy was on its way to the village at that very moment...
The destruction of the Pillars now brings us to the final chapter of our story, in which the Warrior- who now believes himself to be unstoppable- has to face his biggest challenge yet. If he fails, his entire world will be torn apart, and chaos will return.

Cthulhu's brother had been forgotten by the Cultists, who fled into the Dungeon when their leader was destroyed. They no longer tried to put their evil plans to use- instead they were more concerned with saving themselves. However, the ritual they were going through when they were found by the Warrior had not gone unnoticed, as they had previously thought. It had caused the Moon Lord to glance in the direction of Terraria. When he saw the convergence- and destruction- of the Gods of the Universe, he knew something was up. This was his chance to take his rightful place as the God of Evil. He abandoned the moon, and set off for Terraria. But before he began the destruction of good, as was his plan, the Moon Lord set his sights on the Human Village. They would be first to go. Or so he thought...

...

Nothing had terrified the Warrior more than this. He had fought off some crazy things, mainly the creations of Cthulhu, but fighting a god in his true form was something he had neither done nor wanted to ever do. But the Moon Lord came, and he had no intention of going easy. The warrior was a mere speck in comparison to the things the god planned to destroy. Until... He started to fight back. In the god's eyes, the warrior went from a minor annoyance, to something to get frustrated at, to a major obstacle, to the thing that could destroy him. It seemed that the warrior had figured out the god's weak spots- his eyes. And soon enough, every eye was disembodied, blinding the old moon god. It seemed he had been defeated.

But this was not just a creature, remember. This was the Moon Lord, now considering himself to be Cthulhu's successor. He could defy the laws of life. The eyes that had popped out of his head started to fight back. They flew around, firing beams of energy, and it seemed to the warrior that he had no hope of winning this fight. The eyes were unstoppable. But then he did a doubletake. One of the eye lasers had misfired- and hit the god right in the chest. His beating heart was exposed. This was the warrior's chance. He attacked over and over, scarring the heart, until finally it too was destroyed. The Moon Lord had been killed. All evil had been expelled from the world.

...

And that concludes our story of how Terraria came to be. Now, the warior continues to live with his friends, the people of the village. More villages continue to appear around the world to this day, and the human civilization has never been stronger. Who knows what kind of amazing things they will do next...

PART SIX: THE LESS IMPORTANT STORIES
These are short stories that are important only as single stories and had no impact on the main story of Terraria.
When the villages of the humans were growing, before Cthulhu even knew they existed, there was a small group of people who called themselves the Ninjas. These people could appear and vanish unnoticed, run extremely fast, and do physics-defying things like climbing walls. They were defenders of the villages and kept them safe from all harm.

One day, some alchemists decided to experiment with water to give it a living quality. This living water could crawl onto and "drown" anyone it was put onto. They added life magic they obtained from a magical rod, a Staff of Regrowth. This succeeded in bringing the water to life, but after the process it wasn't even water anymore. The substance had gained a jelly-like gooey consistency, which caused it to clump into multicolored spheres. These spheres were produced in the millions, sort of by accident, and they spread throughout the land, occupying every biome imaginable. This was the origin if the creatures now called Slimes.

Every once in a while, a blue slime would merge with countless others, forming a superslime. It was about once every 2,000 times that this happened. These slimes were ultrapowerful, and wanted to defend the rest, so they sought out the thing that was the biggest threat to them: the Ninjas. Each superslime absorbed a ninja, until all were gone. This was the origin on the Slime Kings.

Every once and a while, one of these kings would use his authority over the gelatinous creatures to cause water particles in the air to transform into slime. These clumps would then fall to the ground in mass quantities, causing a storm of slimes to attack any living creatures around them. This was the origin of Slime Rain.
Long before the humans came to the faraway island, it was inhabited by a race of creatures called the Goblins. These creatures were very skilled in the art of combat and sorcery, and they constantly battled with the wild creatures that tried to invade their village. When the humans came, the goblins challenged them; however, the human knights were so powerful that they defeated the goblin army within minutes. The goblins were driven back to the other side of the island, in fear that the humans would attempt to destroy them once and for all.

However, the humans had completely forgotten about the goblins by the time they left for the mainland. They were too caught up in defeating Cthulhu. But goblins hold a tight grudge. They made it their life goal to destroy the human civilization. They built boats that could hold about a hundred goblins at a time, and sent them toward the mainland one by one. Every time a goblin boat reached the mainland, the army inside would charge the human village. This is how it has been ever since: an endless war between humans and goblins.
When the gods first created the World, Anubis already had plans to create intelligent life. He forged a very powerful weapon for them, a sword that could harness the power of the stars. He placed this sword in a house, hoping someone would find it.

However, Anubis was worried that Cthulhu would find the weapon first. He created a bunch of similar houses as decoys. These houses contained things that most would consider junk, like balloons, old horseshoes, and ruined looms. Surely Cthulhu would never find the star sword in that mess...

When Cthulhu came across the patch of houses, he thought that they were a settlement of intelligent living creatures, and he wanted them gone. He destroyed the land, sending the strange houses flying up into the air. Some of these houses landed on clouds, and have been there ever since. This was the origin of the floating islands.
Once, in an attempt to keep the jungle protected, Anubis took a normal jungle bee and caused it to grow to a monstrous size. His plan was to set this bee on the Corruption, if it were ever to invade the jungle. But this bee, though enlarged, still didn't even have the intelligence to answer to any leader. It went rouge, built massive beehives all through the jungle, and placed its own massive larvae in these hives. Ever since then, the bee has guarded the hives with its life. All the other bees are under its control.

Upon seeing this massive bee, Cthulhu suspected Anubis of succeeding in gaining control over it. He took some ordinary tiny spiders and caused them to grow as well, to go fight and destroy the bee. However, as with the bee, the spiders went rogue. They swarmed the underground, building massive nests, and have been there ever since.
Once, while the group of humans was on its way back to the mainland, a Goblin boat managed to catch up to some of the humans' boats. A battle immediately started. The humans, only armed with swords, charged the goblins and took over their boat. They easily won the fight, and afterward they plundered the goblin boat, finding new swords, bows, and other weapons.

By that time, the rest of the human group was far gone. They hadn't even noticed the few boats that had left, and were already halfway to the mainland. But the fighting group was left behind. They had lost track of where they were and had no idea what to do. Each boat went a separate way in hopes of finding the main group, but not only did they fail to do that; they also lost each other.

These small groups eventually found shelter on other small islands and started to grow. They formed villages, unknown to one another or the main group. Eventually, each sent out boats with strong warriors dressed in rags searching for their old friends, for these villages were very poor and technologically inept. Every once in a while, one of these boats would find the mainland. They came across a human village, the one the warrior had built, and mistook it for an enemy settlement. The army would then attack the village. As the villagers saw it, these were pirates looking for their loot. Ever since, these pirates have been attacking the warrior's village, not knowing that who they were fighting was their old group...
Cthulhu realized that Anubis' jungle biome was way too powerful for him, so he thought of creating another biome of similar power. He took an ordinary mushroom and caused it to grow to a massive size, which he then planted in the middle of the jungle. This massive mushroom created a minibiome of its own, taking over the jungle grass that surrounded it. It infected ordinary zombies, plants, and insects with the glowing spores it released.

The mushroom biome spread farther into the jungle, but eventually the living creatures were sarisfied with their home and stopped taking over. They isolated themselves from the outside world, and have been there ever since.
The human village had more than a bunch of workers. They enjoyed celebrating things. They had two main holidays: Halloween, where monsters were said to try to kill children, and Christmas, where everyone gave each other gifts.

But, as always, Cthulhu's spirit was displeased with these celebrations. Not only were the humans thriving in their village, they were celebrating. So he thought of a plan to bring down these holidays once and for all.

On Halloween, Cthulhu created monsters by the hundreds. According to the tradition, the people of the village were supposed to dress up like monsters and give out candy to any kids who came by. But Cthulhu's monsters would instead kill the children. For the kids, it was impossible to tell who was a person and who was a real monster. They managed to escape with their lives, but they all hid in their homes, afraid to celebrate Halloween anymore. Cthulhu's master plan was complete. Not to start planning for Christmas...

Before anyone could react, the warrior ran into the street to see monsters everywhere. But there were no kids outside. Thinking a monster was someone dressed up, he asked it where everyone went. The monster, a demented scarecrow, called all of its friends to attack the warrior. He soon realized that these were no costumes. He fought and fought, killing one after another, but they kept coming in bugger and bigger numbers, with stronger and stronger monsters. Finally, the boss of them all, a flying ghost with a pumpkin head, came down and tried to slash the warrior with its scythe claws. "This is the end", thought the warrior. "I can't fight off this thing." The Pumpking teached up to slice the warrior in half.
Then it was morning.
Seeing the sunlight, all of the monsters fled. They had been killed by the hundreds and likely weren't coming back soon. The warrior had escaped with his life, and the kids no longer had to worry.

That is, until Christmas came along...
After the incident with Halloween, Cthulhu was so mad that he no longer focused on his ultimate plan. He just wanted that warrior out of the way, once and for all. After so many other failed attempts, he knew that the holidays were the way to go, as Pumpking had come closer than any to succeeding in killing the warrior. However, Cthulhu's energy was spent. He had summoned hordes of monsters, thousands of corruption swatches, and many other evil things he figured would lead him to world domination. But because of recent events, his wish would not come true.

So Cthulhu thought up a different plan. He went to the North Pole, where Santa Claus, the king of Christmas, lived. He easily killed Santa, then lay his body on the floor, and planted a human-looking dummy inside the workshop. When the elves figured out that their boss was killed, they wondered who did it; and the only evidence was the dummy. As far as they knew, a human had killed Santa Claus. They wanted revenge. Badly.

The elves stopped working on toys and started on a new project. They enchanted many of their already-built toys with dark magic, creating armies of evil nutcrackers, gingerbread men, and giant snowflakes. They then called upon the power of the Winter Rulers, the Ice Queens, to awaken the Dark Pines and follow them into battle. More dark magic was used to raise dead elves to aid the army. Finally, the elves built giant robotic tanks, and them built themselves attack helicopters. The massive army marched on the human village...

The warrior was very lonely. Not having a family, he stayed in his house during Christmas, eating cookies all by himself. If only he had something... Fun to do...
A grenade hit the side of his house. Looking out the window, he saw santa claus. A giant santa claus. With machinery strapped to his back. The warrior ran outside, into an army of angry elves. Swinging his new Terra Blade, he cut down elves by the hundreds. But more kept coming. Soon he was assaluted by trees that rapidfired pine needles, parachuting presents, and elves with machineguns in helicopters. Maybe this Christmas wasn't going to be so lonely after all...

The warrior thought he had them at bay- that is, until he was sliced in the chest by a freezing pulse of energy. Looking up, he saw a blue humanoid figure shooting more and more of these icy bolts directly at him. He shot back with green terra beams. It worked for a while... Until more came. The warrior was hopelessly outnumbered. But right at that moment, day broke. The icy warriors started to melt in the sun. As they retreated, the elves saw how hopeless they were without their massive minions, and followed closely behind. Cthulhu's final plan had been thwarted. The God of Evil had been defeated at last...
In all the biomes of Terraria, there is but one that is not ruled by any god. That biome is the Ocean, neutral to all who enter, merciless to all who challenge it. As it was out of the realm of both gods, neither even thought to try to take it over. It simply meant nothing to them.

But the ocean has its own magic. Unbeknownst to all other living creatures, the sharks, fish, squids, and jellyfish all protect an ancient power that could be traced back to the creation of the world. Wanting to defend this magic, they once appointed a leader, a baby water dragon, to hold some of it for them. The dragon's strength could defend both the energy and the ocean simultaniously.

Power can get to your head, though, and that's exactly what happened to the dragon. Rather than holding the energy, he absorbed it, barely even knowing what it would do. It made him powerful, as he had wanted, but being fish energy it transformed him into a hideous fish-dragon creature. He didn't care, though. The creature used his power to rule the ocean by force, and dubbed himself Duke of the Ocean. Because of his appearance, his subjects referred to him as the Terrible Duke Fishron.

The warrior was exploring near the house of the Truffle one day, when he came across a strange-looking worm. He quickly picked it up and bagged it. It would make good fishing bait. Later that day, he was fishing with the mushroom-worm on the end of his line, when he felt a very hars tug. It almost sent him flying into the ocean, but using all his strength he managed to pull it out. It wasn't a fish he wanted to keep for food- this fish looked like a dragon. And it could fly. The warrior started to run, but he was chased down. It was best to bring this monstrosity down single-handedly.

After many days of experience, the warrior had learned some fight strategies. He unsheathed his newly obtained Terra Blade, the sword that could harness the power of all of Terraria into one big sword blast. The warrior fired Terra Beams at Duke Fishron over and over, but the boss was the least of his worries. Fighting for the massive fish were flying sharks, tornadoes, and homing bubbles, all of which were chasing after the warrior. He took a lot of damage, but the boss was taking more. He suddenly realized that he could win this fight. Running as fast as he could, he dodged the attacks, and continued to send swordbeams shooting toward the flying dragon. It paid off. The dragon exploded. And so did all of the other enemies that were chasing him. The balance in the ocean had been restored, and the evil ruler was dead at last.
It has been made clear that Terraria is by no means the only planet with other life forms living on it; you could even go so far as to say that intelligence is fairly common. So it should come as no surprise that a civilization from another world- one that is extremely technologically advanced, and knows nothing of Magic in any way- would want to expand its boundaries to other planets in order to make its species grow. After all, the greatest desire of any intelligent species is power. Conquering the universe is always the final goal of a space-going civilization.

And that is exactly what happened with the Martians. Coming from the planet Mars, their first stop in conquering more planets was Terraria- it was close to them and extremely habitable. So they sent robotic probes to scout out the landscape and find a suitable place to set up their first new city. Instead, they found that the land was already inhabited- by a species that had no intention of giving up its grip on the land...

...

What is this thing? thought the Warrior. A large blinking metal orb with strange tentacles and lights seemed to be flying around, almost scanning the landscape. The warrior approached it and tried to disable it. Apparently the thing could sense his touch. It whirled around, the scanner looking straight at him, and all its lights turned red. Then the thing shot into the air. There seemed to be nothing the warrior could do to stop it. Oh well, he thought. Maybe it'll be back. He couldn't have been more right...

The metal hovering thing came back, lights blinking and buzzers sounding. Then the warrior looked past it- and realized why. It was followed by an army of strange-looking flying ships, all circular in shape, and humanoid figures seemed to be dropping from it. But... They weren't really human. Giving it a closer look, the warrior could see that they were green figures with oversized heads and what appeared to be laser guns. And they were all charging the human village. Of course, what choice did he have but to defend his friends? Armies upon armies of these guys attacked, and it was a hard-fought battle. The warrior thought he couldn't hold them off any longer... Until his friends started fighting with him. He had never seen this before. The Guide was shooting arrows, the Clothing merchant threw shadow spells, and even the Dryad seemed to be healing them all with nature magic. Wave after wave of Martian armies were killed off, until they seemed to give up. The ships retreated. The village had been defended from yet another attack...

So what do you think? Feedback is greatly appreciated!

This is an amazing story! It makes so much sense! You should definitely add some more parts! I'm interested about Plantera, and you hinted about the Golem.

Am I the only one who only read the first chapter and was bothered by the benevolent god's name being Anubis? Anubis being the ancient Egyptian jackal-headed god of death and mummification.
But, actually, well done! Being the god who usheres souls into the afterlife, he could be associated with a new life (the afterlife) and therefore, creation! Clever you! Or did you just slap that name in without thinking?
Other than that, I've read until chapter 3, and it's very interesting!

My logic with anubis was that we already had another monster name, Cthulhu, and Anubis was egyptian, and egyptians worshipped light, and Ra was kinda too well known already, so it sounded fitting.

Waiting to see what you do with the events. But whats with the fights? Cant you just put "he killed it" instad of the weapon he used ?? xD

I will likely put the events in Part Five, the less important stories. Also, describing the fight makes it much more interesting in my opinion, but thats just me.

Poll is now open again, but for Golem. (If you want to see the golem story, click "plantera". Unfortunately, polls can't be edited :p)

If by twin bosses you mean the Twins, i already have that. The Duke will come in Part 5: the Less Important Stories, and as its console only im not doing Ocram.

what I meant was you could consider adding them both in as twin guardians seeing as they are both final bosses of different versions symbolising the terrors of life and death (dukes command over the countless creatures of the ocean and ocrams command of the creatures of the deceased and corrupted)

I never really thought of ocram and the duke as related... They were just both bonus missions. Still, the stories in PC and Console are different and this was kind of sticking to PC.

I plan to add duke in part 5, like i said earlier, along with all the events and other bonus mission bosses like king slime and queen bee.

Well, most religions worship light, forgivness, etc. But using your way of thinking, I could write a story with Sammael or Thanatos as the Creator. Or just a random god from Egyptian mythology, except for the ACTUAL god of creation, because he's too famous.
My advice: create the god. Cthulhu is already in the game, so you had to use him. But invent the other! Take a word, invert it, add some letters and voila! A completely original god! Or take a word from another language. Or a group of letters in a related word. The possibilities are endless! Do not stay on the beaten path, be original!
And I finished reading the entire story. I loved it! It makes sense, and explains most of Terraria.

This is a really good story! But i think that the moon is the greatest antagonist in terraria because the blood moon, solar eclipse because the moon basically tries to take over the sun and kill you, the frost and pumpkin moon, lunar event, and lunar boss.
