About the bug catcher

Hi, are there any hidden quests or requirements for the merchant to bring a bug catcher so I can start to catch things? I mean, at this run I have about 300 hours played (1000+ in total) and met about 30 merchants, and not even ONE had a bug catcher.

This item is kinda needed to start the angler quests... I am getting tempted to cheat and edit a world and put it in a chest

No, you will just need a Merchant and 25 silver coin before you will be able to get your Bug Net

The Merchant always sells the bug net. And to be clear, this is the regular Merchant, not the Traveling Merchant. If it's not for sale, the only explanation I can think of is the you're playing a really old version of the game.
