Items Terra-Nerf

I just want to say it, the Terrablade is overpowered as mind controlling the Moon Lord. It needs a serious nerf. But that's BORING. So I propose a debuff.

Terra'd
The terrablade is sucking your lifeforce to power itself! (-2 hp per real life second)
This is given TO THE PLAYER when swinging the blade. I hope that brings it down a few power notches.

The point stands.
No it doesn't. One has to be capable of defeating every mech, as well as being able to consistently not just survive, but thrive during the eclipse in order to get the sword.

This is still a nerf? Also, nobody would use the sword if it sucks life from them. That's just a hassle and not worth it when the debuff is sitting in the back of a player's mind. There are also several other swords that prove to be superior late game to take the place of the Terra Blade, like the Influx Waver and Flying Dragon.

Maybe suck mana instead of hp? That would encourage melee players to get some stars, which are now useless for melee. (when you run out of mana, you can still swing but there will be no projeciles)

I was saying that I think the Terra Blade should get a buff ALONG with being obtained later (right before or after ML) in the game. The sword that represents the game as a whole should be the most powerful, not the meme sword.
How does the Terra Blade represent the game? It's just the typical generic magical sword forged from other swords. If anything, the Minishark/Megashark would be a better representation, as it's among the most memorable weapons. And that one eventually has the SDMG as an spiritual sucessor.

TERRA Blade
TERRA ria
it's green
made with swords of extreme light and extreme dark (terraria has places of extreme light+dark)
balanced because of that (the main "story" focus of terraria is to return balance to the world)

Nope, no changes to the Terra Blade. This is a simple, reliable weapon to use in almost any scenario. It is my main in-game weapon and I don't want to change to find another weapon when I just want to go exploring or building. There isn't really a replacement or upgrade for the Terra Blade. Influx Waver is slower and its projectiles don't pierce.

Post 1 mech teir? I've seen people take it to the pillars
Pfft. Real men take Vampire Knives to the pillars*!
Jokes aside, people take the Terra Blade to the pillars because there is no replacement or upgrade. Not because it's overpowered. Until Moon Lord is beaten at least once, Star Wrath and Meowmere are not even options. There aren't many alternatives. Flairon? Horseman's Blade? North Pole? A yoyo? (No, that's rhetorical. You don't use a yoyo.)
When the Solar Pillar is done, you can look into Solar Eruption or Daybreak, but Terra Blade is your best bet for a trusty sword.
* Yes, I've fought the Lunatic Cultist, pillars and Moon Lord with Vampire Knives + Terra Blade. Worked find until Re-Logic fixed the Moon Bite debuff...

Here is my counter argument: (wall of text imminent)

The chance of getting 2 broken hero swords (typically the last items gained in creating the Terra Blade) in one eclipse can be rare, particularly for slower players. This is because mothron has a 25% chance to drop it and flies away when the player dies. Mothron only spawns after every mechanical boss has been defeated on top of that, so it could be quite a long process to collect the Terra blade without beating Golem first. This is due to the fact that Golem gives the player the necessary items to begin the solar eclipse on call rather than waiting for it to occur.

On another note, collecting the Terra Blade or not, the player must enter the underground jungle anyway to collect chlorophyte, which is a key component in all 3 sets of melee armour which are superior to hallowed armour. The hallowed armour itself requires a repeat of at least one mechanical boss, except on the very rare occasion where all 3 drop 30 each (54 for armour, 12 for Excalibur, 18 for the drax = 90, increased chance of this occuring in expert mode) The hallowed armour, of course, can be skipped, but the melee set also provides the best melee speed bonus. It is possible to favour the set bonus of the titanium armour over the hallowed armour on top of that. Choosing hallowed armour over the 3 pre-moonlord-post-harmode-jungle armour suits appears to be an unfavourable choice, so the expedition is likely.
The reason hallowed armour is important is it is one of the 2 suits of armour available after the 3 mechanical bosses without mining chlorophyte. The other one being the squire armour that is sold by the tavernkeep. The squire armour, however, only gives 6 more defense, which makes it equal to chlorophyte melee armour in defense, but does not give the same offensive benefits and focuses on sentries. Sentries are not particularly beneficial to the Terra Blade.
The reason chlorophyte is important is that due to taking the player to the underground jungle, the player becomes highly encouraged fighting Plantera and Golem, which are part of the natural progression. It is possible, but unlikely to skip Plantera and Golem, even less likely for players who don't already know what's in the temple or players who know what's in there, but prefer beetle armour over turtle armour. Stage skipping options like the aforementioned are a large part in why many people can play multiple playthroughs of Terraria.
Armour is important in this argument, because the success of a weapon is geared mostly around armour and accessories. In non-melee builds the Terra Blade is merely a handy second option when the player is out of ammo/mana/are too close to the enemies and need to make space.
That being said, obtaining the Terra Blade early would make the Plantera and Golem fight a lot easier, which can be problematic when fighting Golem as it's already quite easy compared to other bosses in its state of progression, but the chances of actually owning the Terra Blade before then are slim.

Speaking of post-Golem, the Terra Blade can be considered to be a sidegrade of the Horseman's Blade and Influx Waver. The Terra Blade itself has the highest base damage at 95 compared to 75 and 85 respectively, its projectiles do not home in making it more efficient at close range than the other two, but inferior at a distance. Keep in mind, the obtaining process for these are 1.79-14.29% from the Pumpking (depending on wave) and 11.11% percent from a martian saucer. While the drop rates for these two are rarer than broken hero swords from Mothron, the fact that broken hero swords are dropped at roughly double the frequency of the other two swords means that the chances of obtaining the Terra Blade compared to the others is about equal. Of course, the Horseman's blade can be obtained before fighting Golem if an immediate dungeon trip is initiated after defeating Plantera and the Pumpkin Moon event must be called manually as it does not happen at random like the solar eclipse.

Another point (granted, a lot more sentimental) is technically, the Terra Blade has always been with the player since the creation of the Light's Bane/Blood Butcherer. In a typical playthrough, the Light's Bane is obtained after the first/second boss and combined with 3 other swords to form the Night's Edge, which is carried into early hardmode. The sword is then upgraded again into the True Night's edge, which happens to be a mid hardmode item and combined with the true excalibur to form the Terra blade. It makes sense to be a reliable weapon as it has, in some aspects, always been with the player.

In summary, when regarded stand-alone under optimal conditions, the Terra Blade could be a crutch weapon from mid-hardmode onward, but under most circumstances, it would be obtained post-Golem as a side-grade to 2 other swords, which also cannot be obtained without uncommon miniboss drops from events. It can be considered powerful as an isolated case, but when the rest of the metagame is taken into account, it is actually quite a balanced weapon and finding it early is quite similar to finding an above-ground water bolt. You might have been getting it anyway, but here it is early allowing for a bit of sequence breaking.

This is due to the fact that Golem gives the player the necessary items to begin the solar eclipse on call rather than waiting for it to occur.
While I agree with every other point in your post, you don't need to fight the Golem in order to get eclipse fragments, just Plantera. In fact, the Terra Blade is what I usually kill him with.
