Hey all, I don't know what's wrong with me, but I feel kinda burned out build-wise.
Shelved the current project, I'll probably get back to it eventually.
~sigh~
*mopes over to bed and lies down*
I'll get up later.
...
...
*air gets colder*
*column of darkness appears*
*godless roaring sound*
Madima Has Awoken!
Me: BWAAAH!!??
Madima: *skips over to me* Hello m'cherie!
Me: MADIMA WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE WTF. !!!!
Madima: What do you mean "what am I doing here" ? I've always been here, m'cherie.
Me: I know that Madima, but usually you're IN MY HEAD. Also stop calling me that, it makes you sound stereotypically French.
Madima: Well, I saw that you head was getting full of self doubt and all that, so I decided to come out where I can bug you easier.
Me: Seriously?
Madima: Yes, dear. Anyways, why all the mope and gloom?
Me: Eh? Just tired is all.
Madima: Certainly doesn't look like that, at least considering where I just came from.
Me: I'm burned out, and I feel like none of my builds are particularly creative in any way.
Madima: Hmmm... I see how that could be a problem.
Me: Anyways just leave me alone, I need time to think.
Madima: You know what your problem is? *grabs me and pulls me out of bed, slamming me on the floor* You don't have a sense of your own limits. *puts her footpaw on my chest* That's going to need fixing. >:3
Me: What are you talking about?
Madima: You got this big grand idea in your head that your going to make something huge and great, and then you shelf it at the first sign of trouble. You didn't account for your own limits, and so you started something you can't finish.
Me: What do you want me to do? Force myself to finish it?
Madima: No, I want you to do something else.
Me: Serious? I thought giving up was a
bad thing.
Madima: Dear, are you familiar with the concept of "Fail Faster"?
Me: The game design concept? Yeah, but I don't see what you're getting at.
Madima: How long did you spend on this build?
Me: Seven, ~eight days?
Madima: At what point did difficulties arise?
Me: Second or third day or so? Why?
Madima: What I'm getting at is, If you realized that what you were doing was a mistake, why didn't you do anything? Why did you keep stubbornly forcing yourself forward?
Me: Beats me? I thought people were supposed to never give up, or something.
Madima: You aren't at that point yet. Greatness comes from knowing your limits. If you can't even reach your own limits, that's when you force yourself. You've been exceeding your limits. You need to dial yourself back some, dearie.
Me: Then how do I increase my limit. I feel like my current limits are too small.
Madima: That's because you're doing something you don't know how to do. You need to stick with what you know the best, dearie.
Me: I thought people were supposed to try new things.
Madima: They are, but consider this, dear: When was the last time you saw someone be successful doing something they hated or were otherwise terrible at?
Me: Uhh...
Madima: *leans over closer* Never.
Me: ...
Madima: If you waste your time doing something you know you are no good at or that you hate; Well, dear, You're wasting your time.
Me: Then how do people get better at new things??
Madima: They learn.
Me: Isn't that what I'm doing?
Madima: There is a fine line between learning something and trying something, dear.
Me: So what yo're saying is, I need to learn how to do large builds before I do large builds? That makes no sense, how else do I make large builds except to make large builds??
Madima: Limits, dearie.
Me: Knowing my limits will let me build larger? How?
Madima: You need to take things step by step. Build up gradually. Like how you did the Spaceship. That was you learning, not trying.
Me: How do I tell the difference?
Madima: You limit yourself. You always build in the sky. That's bad, you need limits. The spaceship was successful because you limited yourself to a grey and cyan color scheme, and a limited palette of blocks.
Me: Isn't freedom a good thing though?
Madima: Absolute freedom means absolute chaos. Absolute chaos means absolute fear. Absolute fear means absolutely no freedom. You need to take things with moderation, dear.
Me: So where do I go from here?
Madima: Two words, dear: Building. Challenge.
Me: !???
Madima: If you voluntarily limit yourself, you'll do better.
Me: I don't know about this...
Madima: You are a great artist, dear, I'm confident you'll do fine.
Me: So what do I do?
Madima: Here's your first challenge. When you finish, I'll drop by and give you a new one. Your challenge:
Create a build which incorporates Coral Blocks as its primary component. You are limited to ONE screenshot to capture the build. The Build cannot have water, rain cloud, sand, or palm wood in any form. It does not have to be a residence.
Me: FML.....
Madima:
