My little Pony: Friendship is Magic

I personally would suggest not answering the question. They can find out for themselves if they care because 9 times out of 10, they don't care what your answer is. They want to :red: on you and what you like because it's more exciting than their boring lives.

I think at this point anyone who asks "Why do so many <insert samey thinly veiled insult here> enjoy watching MLP?" is trying to start something. It's uniform and sharp like a knife, wielded by every well to do walker of the one paved road. After hundreds of interviews, comments, blogs, youtube arguments, debates all posted on the internet that could explain every logic set and reasoning behind why someone would want to watch such a cartoon. A lot of which are depressingly bland, I know, but the information is there for your enlightenment. You don't need to ask anymore and you shouldn't think you are impressing anyone.

I treat this no different than the people in the help section asking the same question over and over again even though the answer is stickied right above their thread.

An army of normals, all so dreadfully boring when compared to what can be done and said by mankind, asking why an adult would watch a show. They are mesmerized and horrified that one of their own could watch cartoons of ponies. Because it yanks at their plug and certain defenses must go up to keep them under. When it comes to things one should worry about, an adult watching a colorful cartoon is as mundane as it comes.

The real question one should ask is: Why are so many normals (technical term) worrying about people watching MLP?

I already answered that question but there you go.

Any intelligent, self-aware Brony surely must ask themselves the same question and it's fair enough for others to question it as well. Judging others for being completely bemused by a phenomenon shows an equal amount of ignorance doesn't it? How dare you not understand us? How dare you not understand us? Swings and roundabouts.

Despite all the explanations for Brony-ism it's still not well understood. That's totally cool if you like a TV show for your reasons but when you have professional psychologists studying you you can't deny it's a phenomenon.

I am completely bemused by it but I don't hate it, I'm not "horrified" and I don't have "certain defenses" going up. Like most humans, I'm just an intelligent creature who yearns to understand things. But to prevent the "annoying" question popping up all the time - well at least in this thread hopefully - I'll have a crack at explaining it to the rest of us "norms".

Two independent researchers did an extensive study on Brony psychology and there is another pro-Brony group of researchers here as well. I'll abridge their findings here for you. (Sorry for making it sound like Bronies are a bunch of lab rats to be studied but we all fit into demographics that can be studied, even us non-Bronies do, so let's all man up for science).

Bronies are largely made up of a smaller demographic of males who are "considerate of others, don't tease, don't bully, and aren't critical". They are much more likely to have "agreeable, introverted, harmony seeking" personality traits. They are more "emotional and sensitive" than the non Brony male.

They pretty much relate to the personalities of the ponies themselves in the show - something many non Brony males don't really relate to. Colloquially speaking, and not necessarily derogatively speaking, they may be called "beta males".

So "norms", just watch the show. See how those ponies are behaving? That's how the dudes who like the show behave. It's why we don't get it. We may appreciate that "friendship is magic" and working together harmoniously gets results but it doesn't really hit any visceral side of us. We'd rather watch our dragons tear the limbs from innocent ponies.

As far as other things go like homosexuality, employment, weight, etc. There really is no difference between Bronies and non-Bronies, and Bronies have only a slightly higher rate of being single - understandable considering they are generally more introverted.

50 years ago (and less) such men, being in the minority and not having the social networks of today, would have been bullied and beaten by the more extroverted and aggressive males. And while that still may go on today, thanks to social networking, such men can at least form communities and unite. That may explain why the Brony fandom can come across as annoyingly aggressive - united together they feel more empowered to stand up to their Alpha bullies.

At the end of the day, I think it's good minority groups of people with like minds, whoever they may be and whatever their interests are, especially one so harmless as MLP fans, can get together and find friendship and community with like minded people. I'd rather individuals in our world "fit in" to a loving environment somewhere than feel like outcasts who want to take a loaded gun to their local school.

I don't care for the show, it does nothing for me, and I'm pretty indifferent to the fans of the show. If it's your bag baby then more power to you. I hope other non Bronies "get it" just a little bit now.

I judge others based on how they react to things that don't actually bother them. If I catch :red: from someone for watching something on tv, I'm going to judge them. Not just on that. But I'm going to judge every aspect of their life as well. They have interacted with me negatively and it's like portal: Aggressive thing goes in, aggressive thing comes out. In a safe situation I can ask myself that question but Husky, whether he knew it or not, asked an offensive question asked by normals who just cant keep their gaze on the one paved road. A question I could ask is: Does he really care? Should I use my valuable time explaining something to him if he wants to drag me around in circles? If he does care he can always take to google and ask google about this brony phenomenon and get *more* information than he can on a random forum. ..there is plenty information in this thread alone. But some don't like reading all those pages I guess.

But either way the question has been asked thousands of times out of spite by people who don't give a :red: what your answer is and sometimes take the liberty of drilling you on it anyway.

Also. Trolling is not an excuse.

If you want to discuss more post on my profile instead of making the moderators worry about this thread.

"Lonely virgins" was an unfortunate insult on his part but in his next post I believe he is genuinely interested. I don't think moderators should be concerned. My post was an effort to explain it and prevent further asking of the "annoying question" that Bronies complain about.

....

Things to post here:
Pictures, gifs, events, ideas, or opinions based on MLP:FiM and the general brony fandom

If you want to actually know why I watch the show (I haven't watched the new seasons though) you can fee free to ask me but if you give me any smart :red: remarks I'm not going to give you any real information. You see I am not very good at dealing with bull:red: especially this "You aught to do this and not that!" mentality some normals have. It's *intended* audience is little girls. But just because something is intended for a particular use doesn't mean that's the only use it has. I unscrew things with butter knives. I used to hide money in the port slots in the bottom of my gamecube and screw my gameboy player on like a safe door. I use a tennis raquet to kill carpenter bees.

In case no harm was meant somehow I will answer the question:

I started watching girly and camp shows like that early on. Cause that was my thing. They happened to be on when kid me was :red:ing with the remote and I sat there and watched them. No one else gave a :red: what I watched as long as it wasn't porn. I discovered MLP (the old school one) and I really liked that show. May not have been too keen on some themes but I watched the show because it felt right and made me feel good. Looking back on oldschool MLP, it's pretty :red:ing silly and I certainly won't be going back to watch that show but when FIM came around I was on board right away. That was about the time people started to worry but still nothing more than some stupid idle remark.

Nothing has changed. You can call me a man child all you want but you will be a lot better off not cutting my chains.

tl;dr See bold.

1) Seasons 3-5?
2) Why not?

It just slipped by me. Sometimes I watch older episodes if I can find them on youtube (the playlist I found was completely destroyed and I deleted it from my favorites when there were only 3 videos left. Also if I'm not busy I'm either sleeping or in a trance somewhere. Sometimes I watch a lot of something them drop it for like a year then pick it up again (for example I am still in a break from scrubs).

If the seasons are out on dvd that also helps.

I forgot to mention I made up my own ponies in my head so I'm never really without ponies.

Did you see Season 3, though? Or 4? As for 5, you'd probably need cable or the internet. As for the others, well... try Netflix, and also, it might be on DVD. 3 is most likely, 4 has a chance, but zero chance for 5.

Fan artist and MLP Analist Keyframe is in a very bad situation.
Please see if you can help in any way or at least spread the word.

JFC episode 100 was crazy. Sorry to crash whatever philisophical debate on the nature of being a person who likes a cartoon was going on, but holy crap, that was a ride. Season 5 has been amazing so far.

My little stupid
Friendship is overrated

While necroing threads isn't against the rules, necroing threads with pointless posts is. In the future, if you don't have something constructive and relevant to add, then don't post or you could earn warning marks or other account action.

Two year bump! Ironic that the last post was on the anniversary of its creation. This very post is only advanced of it by nine years and a single day. Go figure.

It's over. Today aired the final episode.

My shirt is completely soaked. I have to buy two more boxes of tissues. I'm pretty sure my neighbors think my house is haunted now.

That's okay. I'm not sad because it's over. I'm happy because I got to experience all of the wonderful moments, the hilarious stints and references, the delightful musicals that didn't make me cringe, the effective and magnetic characters, the deadly season openings and closings, and the glorious message of friendship and not treating each other like garbage.

I don't know if there's anyone left here that still watches it. I'm not going to pull people together to talk about it. It's its own phenomenon and people follow their own path through life. It just happens to have made itself the very road upon which I've been walking, and the food I've been eating.

It's been swell. Thank you for nine incredible, awe-inspiring years of packing my heart and soul with everything good.

I heard somewhere that Generation 5 is going to show up soon, after G4 has ended, presumably.
I don't know if that's true or not, since I just heard about it, but hopefully there's that to look forward to! ...I think.

I also heard that they're going to be keeping most of the characters' names, but shuffling their bodily types. I don't think I can handle a Twilight Sparkle that's an Earth Pony. Heh. Only time will tell.
