**REPORTED** Very large memory usage (memory leak?) on 1.4 Steam Linux

My friend who also plays Linux seems to have the same issue. We have to restart the game every now and then or otherwise Terraria ends up hogging the entire RAM. This didn't seem to happen pre-hardmode, and definitely did not happen in the version 1.3 of the game.

We are 2-3 people playing in an large world, expert difficulty, Linux server (which also runs on Linux but the server seems to be running fine 24/7). Note that this also happens when I get back in a singleplayer world anyway.

I have 8GB of RAM, and just launching the game (Steam, version 1.4.0.2, in Linux) and reaching the main menu screen, Terraria is already using 2.5GB of RAM. After playing for a while it reaches over 6GB, causing my system to become unusable because it's out of memory (OOM).

My sistem specifications:
  • Host: X555LAB 1.0
  • Kernel: 4.15.0-101-generic
  • Resolution: 1366x768
  • CPU: Intel i5-5200U (4) @ 2.700GHz
  • GPU: Intel HD Graphics 5500
  • Memory: 7879MiB

Is anyone on the server using Titanium armour at all? We've had report of the Titanium set bonus potentially causing a memory leak.
 
Can confirm same issue, in my case it's not related to Titanium Armour. I tried doing some random testing to see what might cause it, and so far ruled out: enemies spawning, drops/coins etc, gore, lighting/quality settings. Whatever is causing it, its persistent. It might even be a memory leak in some of the libraries used by Terraria (FNA/mojoshader etc).

I'll report back if I find anything new.
 
Is anyone on the server using Titanium armour at all?

No, our world had Adamantite, but nobody is using that either way. No armour in specific seems to cause it, this issue has occured all the way through hardmode (spider set, hallowed, shroomite, spectre). We move a lot around and invasions or bosses may help it consume more RAM than usual but I haven't noticed any patterns, sadly. It just gameplay in general.
 
I have the same issue. 10 GiB of memory filled up in 5 minutes flat. It's not related to any items, just walking around in the world is enough to destroy your ram. I'm not even in multiplayer. I reduced all my graphics to the lowest setting, still the game would refuse to work. So as of right now I can't play Terraria at all. Its been stated that update 1.4.1 will optimize the game for Linux and Mac, I really hope that they can at least fix this ram leak before then, as it renders the game unplayable. This however hasn't occurred for me until the most recent bug fix. So I wonder if the ram leak has gotten worse. Further more terraria only reports 35% memory usage, although when I kill the process I free up 8+ GiB of ram

1.4.0.3 seems to have helped keep the RAM at more reasonable levels for me, but I'm not sure if that's the case or because we have reached end-game already and I'm not playing in the same world as much. In any case it still grows for me, just a lot more manageable.
 
As a user, Void Linux cannot confirm your problems. I have 8 GB of RAM and when playing with friends all day I can calmly hold instant messengers and a browser with an open video.

GPU does not seem to matter, I've had it both happen on my
Intel HD 4400 (Haswell, OpenGL 4.5) and AMD HD 8850M (GCN1.0, OpenGL 4.6)

I also tried running with my systems mono (mono 6.6.0.161) instead of the integrated mono kickstart (and it's libraries) in order to rule out any memory leak in those, and it did not help.

Also, do you guys have swap enabled?
