The name "cap'n" could be short for a number of different things. His full name could be Charles N. Crunch, and "Cap'n" could just be a nickname.
HOLD IT! But according to multiple sources his real name is actually “Horatio Magellan Crunch” also, wouldn’t you think it would be weird to call someone in the military by a higher rank if they aren’t?

No clue, wikipedia says he’s designed after an 1800s naval captain, but he’s clearly shown to be a pirate in the commercials
Would he qualify as an international criminal if he's a pirate? What crimes has this "Cap'n Crunch" committed in the past?
