Mobile Terraria "Critical" Fixes & Updates - April-June 2015

Re-Logic Staff Edit: We have established this thread as a "one stop shop" for Mobile Terrarians seeking to find information about "Critical" updates/fixes to Mobile Terraria - regardless of device. We will be marking each update from 505 Games with the appropriate image(s) so that you can stay abreast of the latest.

A "Critical" fix is one that deals with:

  • Repetitive Crashes/Failure to Load
  • Inability to play the game (character creation errors, etc.)
  • Repetitive data loss
  • Similar issues to the above - essentially things that "break" the ability to play the game
This thread will NOT be a place to report or share cosmetic bugs and any other issues that fall below the level of "critical" as defined above. We would ask that you continue to report those - and all bugs - to the 505 Mobile reporting inbox ([email protected]) as well as in our Mobile Bug Reports section of TCF. We are working to implement some new features within that section to allow you to provide important information (Device, OS, etc) more easily.

We hope you will continue to have patience and will partner with us as we journey to making Mobile Terraria all that it can be!

Cheers!

June 1 Update - iOS Update, Android & iOS Now Back on Same Level

Good morning Terrarians!

We have received approval for another iOS update today. This update will contain a handful of fixes that we identified during the gap between the last iOS fixes and the build that we pushed live to Android (Google Play) last week.

This will mean that iOS and Android (Google Play) are once again back on the same level. As we noted earlier, Amazon and Windows Phone will be a bit delayed in receiving all of these fixes due to the typically longer submission process on those platforms.

Specific Fixes
- The game now auto saves every 2 minutes
- Pearlstone brick no longer spreads hallow
- Fixed bug where items equipped by client players were not synced correctly
- Fixed bug where crafting ingredients where visible after leaving the crafting tab
- Fixed stutter when cloud saving
- Lihzard door can no longer be destroyed by explosives
- Fixed issues with painting
Many other additional fixes, improvements and optimizations

May 29 Update - Getting Up to Speed on Amazon and Windows Phone

Good day everyone!

We hope you have been enjoying the string of fixes that have been our focus of late. Rest assured that we will continue down this path to get everything up to where it needs to be for everyone possible.

For our Amazon and Windows Phone Terrarians, we know you have gone a long time without an update or even any news. As you may know, the submission and approval process differs by company - with it typically being a longer road on these two platforms. Thus, we have tried to get all of the recent fixes into one push on Amazon and WP submission. Here is where we stand:

Amazon Logo Small.jpeg

Amazon: We are currently testing our proposed fixes. Our hope is to have everything out to you in the 2-3 week timeframe

WP Logo small.png

Windows Phone: We are developing this in parallel with Amazon, but it is a bit slower going. Our plan is to have this available in a month or maybe a bit longer, depending on how it goes.

Obviously, we will endeavor to get these to you as quickly as possible - but we wanted you to know that you have not been forgotten and those fixes are on the way!

Thanks for your support and patience.

May 26 Update - Android Keyboard Issues - Character Creation, etc.

Good Afternoon Terrarians!

We have good news on the Google Play version as we head into this week - we are finally ready to submit the update we mentioned previously for Android (including fixing the keyboard bug)!

Our intent was to get this out sooner, however, while we were working through the keyboard issue, we discovered a few other bugs that we felt needed to be addressed while we were at it. We will confirm with all of you here just as soon as the build is live.

Thanks Terrarians for being extra patient with this fix and for continuing to bring us your valuable feedback - it is critical towards making Mobile Terraria all that it can be!

May 8 Update - Addressing the Non-Critical Mobile Bugs

@505Games-Mobile posted a thread in Mobile Technical Support/Bug Fixes that serves as a roadmap for "Non-Critical" but still important bugs. These are bugs that do not stop players from playing (crashes, etc.), but are those that affect things from worldgen to graphics and beyond. View this as a starting point to be built upon with additional bugs and any other information on existing ones.

Many of these still need YOUR help to gather information and help the team - so jump right in and help!

May 4 Update - Android Keyboard Issues - Character Creation, etc.

This is a bug that originally appeared last year - one that the team had fixed at the time. However, the release of Lollipop tied in with alterations to the OS made by specific device manufacturers caused this bug to reappear for a good number of Terrarians. Essentially, this bug makes it so that some keyboards don’t oblige the API correctly and it prevents the keyboard from showing - which is obviously a big deal if you are trying to do something like make a new character.

We now have a build in QA that addresses this issue by forcing the keyboard to appear in spite of this. We hope to submit this fix through in the very near future, and will provide an update on timing ASAP. Apologies for any issues you have faced with this thus far and thank you for your patience while we fix it. This is something that occurred outside of our code itself - but it is also something we will watch quite carefully as OS changes occur in the future.

May 1 Updated Info

Good morning all. The iOS fixes we outlined are still well underway, and we hope to deliver further updates on that soon - rest assured that we are pushing hard to get these fixes to you as quickly as possible so that you can get back to playing! We did want to take a few moments to outline some details behind one of the bugs because we feel that this information will assist players in avoiding some potential harm to their character saves:

SCENARIO ONE: If a Player: Loads character -> saves character -> reloads character and again saves the character - Some aspects of the character save can become corrupted:
  • All items in the piggybank
  • All items in the safe
  • All active buffs
  • Current active pet
  • All recipes, ingredients & crafting stations found.
  • Spawn information
  • Statistics

In regards to permanent harm, this should only affect things placed in the safe & piggybank. Things in your inventory and things like armor & vanity items are fine. The other impacts (spawns, pets, etc.) are easily reset by the player.

SCENARIO TWO: Now if the player loads the character -> saves character -> tries reloading and crashes - The character files are now corrupted, HOWEVER the upcoming bugfix should be able to restore those files. So do not delete those files - just leave them in place until the fix comes!

In the first situation there is unfortunately nothing that can be done from our end to restore those lost items.

UPDATE, April 28

Terrarians, we have identified the issue preventing characters and worlds from loading. The issue stems from the way save files are written and read following a change to support 64-bit architecture on newer iOS devices. We are working around the clock on a solution and will let you know as soon as an updated version of the game has been submitted to Apple for release. In the meantime, please DO NOT delete your game or saved files. While we are confident we will be able to make save files readable again, there is a chance some items stored in piggy banks or safes may be lost due to file corruption. As a token of our sincere apology, we will be giving all players a gift to help make up for progress and time lost in the game. In the meantime, if you have any questions about these or other issues pertaining to the game, please email us at [email protected]. Thank you again for your understanding and continued commitment and passion for Terraria.

You may not insult or tell people to stop posting in a public thread, especially when their posts are perfectly reasonable.
I haven't even played it the most i've seen some one play and seeing some one climb with the climbing claws is painful
Once again, people cannot even START IT. Take your complaints about controls somewhere else. And even them, who are you to judge a game you haven't played?

Edit: 505Games fixed this now ~:naughty:

Annnnnd back on topic. Troubleshooting this crashing problem.

I'm looking for, and not finding any crash logs at:
C:\Users\FlatPepsi\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\

Is there some trick to getting/finding these crash logs? I'd like to give the developers all the data I can to get this issue fixed.

Have you installed iTunes on your PC, then done a sync operation? You'll need a USB cable to connect your mobile device to your PC for the sync.

Sorry, I should have given some context. I'm an IT professional as my day job- so I have the basics down. The folder dates are updating with each sync, but I have no crash logs. I was wondering if there was a setting to enable crash log reporting, in case that wasn't the system default. I'm used to deploying large scale Windows deployments, not iPhone development.
