    of course it is. You're stoned, your gear doesn't work. Btw, just in case you didn't know already,you can avoid being stoned by looking the other way when medusae do the weird face (problem is, they can do that offscreen, so yeah. useless advice is useless)

    They have nerfed op endgame items in the past though. I mean I guess it might not happen, but I think it's very likely.

    As Shadow_Mantis said, they need no nerfing, for the only legit way to obtain them is to beat the final boss (the whole event is the final boss, really) either solo or multiplayer.

    As back in 1.1 and 1.2, there's always people who need to read up on what "Endgame gear" really means.
