tModLoader The One Ring to Rule them all.

FeelsGoodMan

Terrarian
Hello everyone, this is my first entry at Terraria modding and I hope you will enjoy my mod.

As the name suggests this mod adds the 'The One Ring' to Terraria, It is incredibly powerful for Vanilla but can be used anyway you wish, the ring shares nothing except Visuals and the name with it's LotR counterpart, my original intent for this mod is for use with Calamity mod on Revengeance difficulty.

I didn't really find anything similar to this mod anywhere so I figured I would make my own.

The item is crafted as follows:
5f4a6e3928551175da37363b867d8527.png

And the effects are: +100% Crit Chance for Melee and Magic; +150% Melee, Magic and Summon Damage; -100% Mana cost; +1500HP and +1000 HP Regen. (This is not stated on the rings description in game)

This is also an expert mode only item.

Now I would have really liked to change some things about this mod, such as make the crafting station the ancient manipulator and add Luminite bars to crafting recipe as well as Lunar event fragments but I don't know how to as I'm very much new to modding.

I'm also going to include the mod skeleton for this mod as I didn't really find anything like that for accessories and using an example CS. file was pretty complicated for me and if anyone wants to tinker with the mod the are free to do so how ever they wish though I would appreciate if you included my name if you publish your version (if that is even allowed).

Special thanks to Gort from Tmodloader Discord as he is pretty much the sole reason this mod was even possible as he made an example mod for me where I could just edit the numbers and add some stats.

Enjoy wreathing chaos and destruction upon the world of Terraria.

Update:

I have changed the recipe of the item as this is what I really wanted it to be.
Now I'm including a slightly more balanced version of the ring, it is far weaker than the original but still much more powerful than anything else in the base game
Rebalanced stats are: +50% Crit Chance for Melee and Magic; Damage is unchanged (This is supposed to be THE most poweful accessory in the game); -50% Mana cost; +300HP and +100 HP Regen.

Neat mod, but how about changing the recipe so that it takes less souls/ hallowed bars and the ring so that it doesn't give you so much health. Keep up the awesome work!

This is quite powerful, especially for Pre-Plantera...
If you can't change the recipe because you don't know the names of the items...
Luminite Bar = LunarBar
Solar Fragment = FragmentSolar
Vortex Fragment = FragmentVortex
Nebula Fragment = FragmentNebula
Stardust Fragment = FragmentStardust
Ancient Manipulator (Tile) = LunarCraftingStation

See the idea I had with the recipe is that you charge every single bar with the souls, also I didn't really know names of post mechanical boss materials so I'll be changing the recipe soon as well as making a version with less health.

This is exactly the info I've been looking for.

If this is designed to function alongside Calamity you may want to lock it behind some of Calamity's post-moonlord content because even with a cost of 10000 of each resource this ring can put you much further ahead than is necessary to steamroll the first few post-moonlord calamity bosses.

I don't really know how I would do that and even if I really did this IS supposed to be extremely powerful, overpowered even,I made a more balanced version for sake of there existing one and being easy to access but if someone wants to go any further than that they will have to do it on their own because I basically included everything all you need to do is just change a few lines of code,I was looking for accessories with Lifesteal on them or ones with a lot of power but there wasn't anything really quality like so I figured I would make one of my own, and as far as Calamity goes on Revengeance DoG can hit you up to 1200+ damage post mitigation, with that in mind you still cannot faceroll bosses with the balanced version sometimes if you go too careless even the original one won't save you in Post DoG Halloween or Frost moons and even more so on Post yharon Solar eclipse

While I get what you are saying, I'm not talking about the destroyer of gods, I'm talking about the bosses before that.

But it's your mod and if it does what you want it to then there is no issue.

Any plans to try your hand at some other gear as well?

Well the beauty of this mod in my opinion is that it's completely standalone and you can use it how ever you want even editing the recipe to how you want it, maybe make it the final item you get or whatever you want, as far as other gear goes I'm not so sure, I'm not very good at armor spriting, I could do it but it would be pretty low quality and I don't feel like making that and neither am I good at making weapon effects, not good is probably the wrong word, I don't know how to is more like it, anyway my problem was that I would constantly get oneshot on Revengeance mode Calamity bosses and there is no counterplay to that so I looked for something similar to the mod I made and didn't really find anything except 'Overpowered stuff' mod in the mod browser and even the name of the .tmod is 'First:red:eMod' so you can imagine it's very bare bones and basically a cheat mod, this on the other hand is slightly more interesting in my opinion, with this you can basically face roll everything up to DoG and after that you need to pay a little bit of attention but it really makes the game much more enjoyable for me.

TL:DR probably not...

I've been doing an expert mode revengeamce run as summoner and not having much trouble. I think two mods that help considerably are learn as you go and the classes mod. You can become incredibly powerful with those two installed. The longer you play the better you get, essentially.

I dig your mod though. Maybe a series of artifact rings with incredibly low drop rate from any enemy that boost single stats by a ton. That would be cool. A ring with 1/10000000 chance of dropping, and give 2k health, or one that gives 100 percent crit chance or something.

Post moon lord with True melee is impossible for how the bosses kite you, this ring is supposed to be the remedy also I hate RNG so probably not lmao,I like a set in stone expensive recipe, but yeah I like the idea with specialised rings, I might consider making a mod based on that Idea.

i do not like to new changes. sauron's ring is so powerful it corrupts anything nearly instantly, cursing it with a fraction of his powers, it merely turns the hobbits invisible, because they cannot handle the sheer amount of power, the first one is closer to the actual ring, but the rebalance makes it much too weak, how can i smite supreme calamitias if she deals more damage then i? if it is too early for such an item, then make it calamity supportive, and post calamitas it

@DeeSuperTurtle Can't you simply use the non-rebalanced version then? The download is still there?

@FeelsGoodMan, I would like to personally offer you my thanks. I recently installed one of my old favorites, Omnir's Mod, remade for tMod Loader. It is unfortunately incomplete, however, and it is unclear whether or not Omnir will ever finish it given a lack of updates over the last three years... and one of the main things missing from his awesome mod just happened to be... the One Ring.

Yet here you are providing me with a way to get it back anyway. I'm going to beat Sauron in his mod, and not a moment before will I allow myself to craft this little beauty, to represent me taking it from his dead, smoking hands.

Thanks a lot for this mod.

Your point being? Is it socially inacceptable nowadays to show gratitude the only way I possibly could to a person who did something I greatly appreciate just based on the possibility that they won't see it and the fact they haven't logged in for a duration of 2 years?

Nobody has posted in several threads I still check every once in a while in case I find out they've come back, and sometimes they do come back to life. People stop playing games for various durations and return to them later when it's been a while, it's nothing unusual. You even responded to me here, so it's not like the possibility of them coming along is 0%, is it?

They could be on discord only/moved on/forgot about Terraria, I mean, we have seen some people return after a long period of vanishing (Cavities for example, Disarray Author returned as Smug, and he's both active and extremely more skilled than ever before)

If I want to thank someone and there's even the tiniest chance that they might see it, then by the seven Heavens and the nine Hells, I will thank them, lol. They spent hours working on something that I get to use for free, I can spare a couple of minutes to type a message. Regardless of whether or not I know for sure that they will see it, or not.

Why not ranged? Do you just hate ranger?

Huh. You're right, I had not noticed. How peculiar. XD

Necroing threads is bad forum etiquette. There is a private message system for a reason.. You need not revive a long dead thread simply to say thank you when a private message accomplishes the same thing without necroing the thread. Only reason I can see for you posting in the thread is so that everyone else knows you've thanked the person. The Terraria forums, as far as I can tell, do not explicitly say you cannot necro a thread but it is generally viewed as poor forum etiquette and very regularly against the rules of forums.

Yeah they have no rules regarding necros, it isn't very nice either.
Do keep in mind alot of these necros are often done by one-posts, new joiners, or people who have a history of not checking if the OP is active.

May I know why? Why it is considered 'not very nice', or bad etiquette? Nobody ever says why, they just say it is, and to me it makes no sense whatsoever. It's a written discussion thread. The whole point of writing stuff is that it typically has a longer impact than spoken words. Some engravings were made thousands of years ago and we're still talking about them today. Why is it such a crime to join a thread a couple of years, or months, old?

It's the one, main thread about this mod. You'd think people should be allowed to say something about it there without other people feeling insulted about it. So I'd genuinely would like to ask you guys, since you seem to know the answer. Why, exactly, is it bad to post in a thread that wasn't updated in a while, given that what is posted is related to the subject matter? What is 'not nice' about the 'necroing' deal?

And specifically to you, Ieqesai, just because 'the only reason you see' is the only reason you see does not make the only reason. If you re-read what I posted, I suggested a possible course of action for the last person who posted before me who was apparently disatisfied with the re-balanced version of the mod, even though the original version is still there to be downloaded. My post was an attempt to help out said person, and I simply used the opportunity to thank the creator while I was at it, as well as explaining why I was so grateful, so that possible other Omnir's Mod users could see the same value I saw in this mod. I was adding to the conversation, which is helpful, in addition to thanking the creator, which last time I checked does not hurt anyone.
