Well, while looking at the Crimson background on the forums, I noticed and remembered and connected the dots... I think that the Crimson is a reference to the movie "War of the Worlds," because the world turns red from blood or something like that SPECULATE

I don't think its a specific reference to War of the Worlds, but I can definitely see how the stringing meat in the background and the red grass bear resemblance to the red weed from the movie.

The Crimson is just a gore themed version of the Corruption. If you're looking for War of the Worlds references look at some of the enemies in the Martian Madness event.
