I agree! I played this on the PC last, like 2-3 years ago, and already loving it. Can't wait to play the current version on the Switch, all the new stuff and with friends again :D

Greetings, Terrarians!

We know you have been anxious to see some progress on the 1.3 update for Terraria on mobile devices. Both Re-Logic and Pipeworks have also been excited to share some pre-production work that has been completed! This work focuses on the specific features and changes that are required for the Mobile version above and beyond the core codebase.

This small teaser showcases some of what users might expect to see on their mobile devices when the update comes out. This also gives us a chance to show you a little peek into the development process to those who are curious. Note that this is only intended to be sample image and is still very much “work in progress”.

This is a first-pass mockup of the new mobile UI. As you can see, the layout is similar to the PC and console versions, with some alterations to make it fit the mobile screen space. After several rounds of feedback, we have made and continue to work on polish with the User Interface. Primarily, we have tweaked a few things in the UI to be less cluttered; the icons on the left side now have a uniform background, and the menu icons on the bottom of the screen no longer have backgrounds taking up space. This is still very much work in progress, and we expect a few more tweaks to this sample image before it is finalized (with similar work going on at the same time for other parts of the UI).

We also wanted to take this opportunity to update you on our current plans since the original forum post from when we took over console & mobile development of Terraria is no longer accurate.

We’ve been working with both 505 Games & Re-Logic on updated priorities after the console launch. This includes fixing a list of bugs that are still present in the console versions and moving full-speed ahead with Switch development. Mobile development has been focused on UI design and codebase refinement thus far.

In terms of launch order and timing, the nature of game development makes this very hard to predict. Our current expectation is that the Nintendo Switch version of Terraria will launch first, with the mobile update coming out after the Switch version is completed. We are discussing ways to accelerate both paths as well. Currently, we don’t have a timeline on that, but as soon as we have more information we will make sure to share it with you guys.

We want to thank everyone for their patience and support.

The Terraria Team

I'm So Hyped for It!!

D*mn I can't wait till it's out for mobile.....Hopefully I have enough time to farm Ocram some since I heard he is being taken out of the game. Hopefully Duke Fishron stays in-game !!!!

Why does this get postponed over and over again. Can we have an update with something new while they work on this cause it is taking forever

That’s actually an interesting idea, but that would mean more platform exclusive content, which is what they don’t want.
Although, didn’t they do this before, by putting in the Drax pre-hardmode while mobile players were waiting for some update?

I feel you on that one. First they announced it December 2017, and here we are now. I really hope it doesn't take much longer, I so wanna play Terraria on the Switch with some friends!

Mobile was last updated Jul 28, 2016. D@mmit it's been nearly 3 "YEARS" since the last update for mobile. H*LL "Red" said himself he created the game originally in only 4 months !!!! Wish the update was out already, any game only has certain amounts of replay value before it gets old

The reason this next update took a lot longer than the others is because they're rewriting the whole game code from scratch to make the next updates come faster (Like Console) and keep in mind that Re-Logic is a small company, not a titanic thing like other game developers.

Heck, I never knew Red made Terraria in just 4 months, but it's probably because it's just the things from pre-Hardmode with the Dungeon (And Skeletron) being the last challenge.

Yeah it was in a interview where he mentioned about "Terraria 2" also

That version was short, buggy and ran on exactly one platform (PC Windows). He was forced to release it 'early' because it was being leaked. And within a year, he walked away from it due to professional/personal reasons. (Fortunately for all of us, he came back.)

Software development is hard. It's unfair to cherry-pick one statement from an old interview and extrapolate that to an estimate of effort required to create a product that bears little resemblance to that first prototypical game in terms of scope and complexity.

We get that people are anxious for updates and disappointed in the delays. I'm looking forward to the mobile update myself, and I don't fully understand the extended delays either. However, I did feel like this needed some clarification and perspective.

eta: also, @Grizz, please don't censor swear words as you've been doing. There's a profanity filter option available for people who don't want to see those words.

Also it's a habit of mine censoring swear words like I did. I've always done and always will for some reason
