Thanks for your time and consideration!

Alright, let's start with the crashing on close. First enable logging using the method below, then trigger the crash again and paste the log here.

After performing this step, the game freezes up when closed. After waiting several minutes for the program to close, I forced it closed then manually created the file at the default address you posted and tried again.

Terraria stays frozen when I close it now, and must be manually closed.

Alright let's see if the Event Viewer has any information or clues for us.

To access the event viewer do the following:

  • Press Windows+R.
  • Type "eventvwr" without the quotes and press enter.
  • On the left hand side click "Applications" then "Windows Logs".
  • View any errors or warnings with Terraria, .Net, XNA, or DirectX as the source. Screenshot the general and detail tabs of all applicable errors.
  • Upload the screenshots somewhere I can view them.

Hmm, having trouble following you there, from the event viewer top page I see either windows logs straight away or applications and services logs.

Oh yeah I mixed up the two, expand Windows logs then click applications. My bad.

No errors and warnings either, how bizarre. As far your system is concerned Terraria is functioning fine... Let's focus on the other issues for now.

This is a legitimate purchased copy of Terraria, correct? You didn't download it for free illegally from any third party websites?

Here's some more information on the Steam Overlay, as per the guide verify that Steam Overlay didn't get disabled and that the overlay for Terraria specifically didn't get disabled. Let me know once that has been verified. As well as the answer to my question above.

That verifies that steam overlay is enabled, but sometimes it can get turned off for specific games. If you right click Terraria and select "Properties" in steam, make sure the checkbox that says "enable overlay while in this game" is checked. Also, I forgot to actually link the overlay guide, my bad. Here it is for reals this time.

Yes, that box is also checked. I'll read through the guide.
[doublepost=1552593039,1552592760][/doublepost]When I verify Terraria's files there is one file that needs to be repaired, a subsequent integrity check after that comes back with no problems. The next time I run the game and close it, the file must be repaired again.

That last part I wouldn't worry about. It's a steam thing.

Some people online haved claimed unchecking the steam overlay box for terraria, saving, running terraria, closing terraria, then re-enabling the steam overlay for the game fixes the issue. Could you try that for me and see if it resolves the issue?

Could you press ctrl+shift+esc and get me a list off all the processes running on your machine? You may need to take multiple screenshots or manipulate the window to get evcerything. I want to view them and see what might be conflicting with Terraria or Steam.

No conflicting processes, if you run the game then alt tab and press ctrl+shift+esc and look for a process called "gameoverlayui.exe" and kill it are you then able to shift tab in either Terraria or any game?

I too am having much of the same functionality issues in regards to steam overlay not working. Played the game for over 35hrs with it working on Ubuntu 18.04, then all of a sudden nothing. So I reluctantly switched to Windows 10 and proceeded to play it for over 100hrs, however this glitch has followed me to that platform as well. I would prefer it on Ubuntu as windows is mind numbingly aggravating.
The steam controller works for other games, just not for Terraria. I have followed the steps outlined in this thread but still nothing. And no, after killing "gameoverlayui.exe" I am unable to shift-tab to any other game or Terraria.

I am including a pic of each of the tabs under properties for Terraria on the center screen. Also included is both Ubuntu pics as well as windows.
