The hardest thing about learning German so far is all the words for 'the'. I'm constantly forgetting if it is die, der, or das for some words.

Learn each noun along with its corresponding article. And rejoice! For there's more confusing stuff to come. (I'm thinking of noch and doch.)
 
Excellent! It's a good language for English speakers to learn, a close relative of English.

Don't just try to remember "Fisch" = fish, instead think "der Fisch" = the fish. Create and reinforce a memory of the two words together, so recalling the noun (Fisch) brings up your related memory of the article (der).
