Switch Is beam sword good?

I got one randomly and I know its a rare drop (I also got a uzi) and want to make use of it if I can

It’s better than all of the hardmode ore swords, but that’s about it. The uzi on the other hand is fantastic, useful all the way until you get the megashark.

They're both ok for certain people, but not for me sadly.

No... even if you're limiting yourself to melee weapons there's better options like the amarok, ice sickle, and shadowflame knife.
