You can legitimately summon it post-Plantera with the Solar Tablet from the Temple.

According to the wiki it's after one mech boss but it's a bit useless then.

It's not useless, you can still get Broken Hero Swords and Broken Bat Wings.

and lots of weapons that do lots of damage like the eye of cthulu yoyo doing 180 damage

I'm referring to the post-mech SE Red Devil, in which Darq mentioned it's drops. They're alright, I guess.

You can't actually obtain Broken Hero swords before Plantera has been defeated, because Mothron will not spawn.

You can get the broken swords from other Eclipse mobs, you know.

I am pretty sure they removed the chances to get them from other mobs in 1.3 Only the Mothron drops it now

I got it from Swamp Thing for some reason.

A swamp thing has dropped it for so long and ahhhhhh it hurts ....lololol

For some reason I killed 500 Swamp things and still no Broken hero Sword
