The problem theyre trying to highlight this year is that the events of the Holocaust were caused by people not realising that what was happening was wrong - they had been brainwashed. Hence the "Don't Stand By" campaign that is being run.

Mengele was a creature that wasn't worthy to breathe. The operation holocaust was one more stain of blood on the soil we humans stand. Innocent blood shall never be shed, however guilty blood spilled is something that is needed to maintain order.

The problem today, is that Antisemitism is on the rise in lots of Europe, and even here in the US. Let's not forget why the holocaust took place, in the first place -- everybody hates the Jews, and it starts with Jew Jokes and ends with gas chambers. If you hate the holocaust, then also similarly should you hate the not-so-harmless Jew Jokes.

And one should also similarly hate jokes about Blacks, Whites, Asians, etc. Racism in any shape, form, or... eh, color is bad.

There's also the fact it was in area of my country and that there are still remains after this concentration camp as a grim reminder of what happened there.

That's a pretty slippery slope. I wouldn't say that a joke without malicious intent on mind would hurt anyone. However, it is true that satire can be used as a political and very serious tool. It's not the jokes to be very frank with ya, but the intent they're done with.

Jokes de-sensitize people. If you get used to telling jokes about a certain race of people, then you build this indifference towards them and you continue making fun of these people, and they become the butt of your jokes, and you laugh at others' jokes, and as this de-sensitivity spreads, then nobody cares about this race of people.

Who was guilty of the holocaust? The Nazis, of course. Who else was guilty? All of the silent pulpits in Europe, when the antisemitism was on the rise. What do you think would have happened if pastors and others started speaking up about it before the nazi regime had a chance to come to power? It might never have happened in the first place.
