Always feels weird playing Terraria after playing Starbound. Mostly because that game has it where your character blinks every so often... and has facial emotes. XD

I'm pretty sure they dont blink... Then again I likely would have missed it.

I honestly don't recall. I know they can 'speak' to one another or your character and have a chat animation.
