Well, from what I've gathered, starting with "Hi" tends to feel awkward for the receiving end since most people put ", I'm *insert name/insert profession*!". Merely typing/saying "Hi." without anything else feels empty.

As far as anxiety, I just roll with it. After you get to know someone enough, it fades.
