Well, we, as humans, can live for quite some time. We have years to wait or to act for our lives to get better, to get better at what we want to do, to be the kinds of people we want to be, as long as we don't do anything that would shorten it. Even if we never get there, we can die trying, and that way, our lives really meant something.

We may think of our lives as always being in some kind of pit, but it's human nature to think that way, to always believe the grass is greener somewhere else. If it wasn't humans would never have gone anywhere. Things change.
