Companion Cube randomly stabs the player, dealing one point of damage. Taking off the pet should prevent the damage from occurring.

According to the wiki, it deals 3 damage to you. Maybe that's without any armor?

Yes, the Meteor Armor is reducing the damage his player takes to 1.
