The concept I've been sticking with for the past couple of years is that this thing throws its gems at you to attack, but I keep contemplating different ideas. THIS time, I'm considering having the fish lose gems as it takes damage, which bounce around the place to hurt you until the fish dies.

It could be a simple Piranha AI that, once killed, will explode into each of the different gems in different directions and will stop moving and drop as the respective gem type once it touches a wall or hits a player(hurts the player, of course.) Can be a nice way to encourage the player to kill it from a distance.
