Basically, a lot of the class will be themed around Gases and Ignitors, which don't do much damage on their own, but when used in conjunction with each other inflict massive damage blowing even ranger out of the water (pun intended). There also will be other subclasses like Transmutators and such.

And yes, the gases are going to be thrown items (and ammo in some cases). They just aren't meant to deal damage on their own.
