Got to the boss twice. Everything was going good until...

I fired the cannon. His lasers after that are impossible to keep up with.

the same thing happened twice. Tried to use bandages, but those lasers...

I discovered a couple of tricks on the Starbound forums. If you hide under the platform with the cannon on it, the crystal will stop everything, it won't fire lasers or summon mobs, this gives you a chance to heal up and plan your next move.
