after defeating a mech. boss, there's an enemy that creates an exclamation mark speech bubble when attacking.
if you're only seeing those it's probably not the portal creating them.

iirc it's because there are many large structures and biomes, and small worlds are too cramped to consistently house them all.
i think you can still generate small worlds but YYMV, suggest getting a worldgen viewer to ensure you won't get nasty surprises later.
might be an idea to add a variable delay after each swing based on speed, so slower non-autoswing weapons with autoswing enabed (like a musket or Volcano) have about 4-6 ticks of delay between each swing, going down to 1-2 for very fast weapons that still aren't autoswing (like a light...
