I've had this problem since terraria got updated to 1.14, where the dyes would be in a solid colour (purple and orange respectively) and on small items would not be animated at all. On larger items the fire would be in a collected bar near the bottom of the accessory, and would only show up...

very true. but if your early on in game I recommend those combined dyes, because most of them are made from everyday objects you find (and trash because you think it's useless then regret trashing it because you needed to make an item with it) and overall water bottles aren't very hard to craft
