It's still a possibility since that already started happening to Android last year. It'll also be very troublesome if they had a much more larger codebase after a few more updates and they'd be stuck with checking if everything works properly if they do eventually switch to it.
really hope they could do vanila 64-bit soon, since most cpu manufacturers are starting to only make 64bit chips and windows is slowly axing 32-bit support
