Linux 1 - 0 keys not bindable

So, because of reasons that I'm not going to discuss here, the only way for me to play the game is on Linux and I found out that the 1 - 0 keys (the one's you select hotbar items with) are not bindable for some reason. Instead they show as unbinded (except for the 1 key which is apparently registered as + key by linux), no matter what I do. The only thing I found out while searching through the internet was that is is an issue with 1.3.5 . Does anybody else have this issue? If you had did you solve it and how? I'm asking, because the game is literally unplayable when I'm forced to only use the scroll wheel.

Sorry if I asked too much stuff at once.

TL;DR: hotbar keys not working, Google doesn't help either.

By default Terraria seems to use X Window System keyboard symbols, which means your local keyboard layout can affect the result. I had several issues with my dvorak layout because many symbols where filtered out (unmappable) around the WASD-region on qwerty. Well enough of that.

Perhaps launching Terraria as
FNA_KEYBOARD_USE_SCANCODES=1 ./Terraria.bin.x86_64
...helps for you too? Although some still are not mappable, it fixed most of my issues.
