Standalone [1.3] tModLoader - A Modding API

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think
Code:
public virtual void DrawEffects(PlayerDrawInfo drawInfo, ref float r, ref float g, ref float b, ref float a, ref bool fullBright)
is what you're looking for. The tModloader wiki says, "Allows you to create special effects when this player is drawn, such as creating dust, modifying the color the player is drawn in, etc..."
Nope, doesn't work. I made a loop that iterates over the Main.playerDrawData list which has a Main.NewText call inside it. The NewText never appears, so the only conclusion is that Main.playerDrawData is empty (as a for loop with i=0;i<Main.playerDrawData.Count will not execute if Main.playerDrawData.Count = 0).

Right click / altFunctionUse breaks a lot for me

It usually happens when I first load up the game or when I'm clicking too close to my character

Does anyone else have this issue?

How would I make an NPC face the way is moving, like how spazmatism faces toward you when it does when it does the charge attack.

Problem. When I open the .exe that's supposed to open vanilla Terraria, it activates tModLoader anyway. It's only happening after deleting the original vanilla .exe due to a version numbering problem and installing tModLoader again.

Allright, for this you first want a direction vector between the player and the boss. This can be obtained like so:
Code:
Vector2 dir = Main.player[npc.target].position - npc.position;
Then you want to convert that direction vector to an angle in radians like so:
Code:
float rotation = (float)(Math.Atan2(dir.Y, dir.X) / (2 * Math.PI));
npc.rotation = rotation;
This should be all the code for getting the correct rotation.

I've narrowed the problem down to specific circumstances

1 > If your cursor is on a solid block within 3 tiles of your character, you can't activate RMB (right mouse button) item functions
2 > If you try to RMB while your cursor fulfills the first condition and then move the cursor into open space (with RMB held down), it disables RMB completely

I found something odd. When I use this code, it sometimes causes very strange issues:
Code:
public bool bodyTexMatch()
{
    string bodyTexPath = "MyMod/Items/Armor/MyChest_Body";
    string bodyFemTexPath = "MyMod/Items/Armor/MyChest_FemaleBody";

    DrawData data;
    for(int i=0;i<Main.playerDrawData.Count;i++){
        data=Main.playerDrawData[i];
        Main.NewText("Texture name:"+(data.texture.Name ?? ""));
        if(data.texture.Equals(mod.GetTexture(bodyTexPath)) || data.texture.Equals(mod.GetTexture(bodyFemTexPath)))
        {
            return true;
        }
    }
    return false;
}
Code summary: Iterates over the Main.playerDrawData list and checks each value to see if it is either drawing my mod's body texture or female body texture. Returns true if one is found, returns false if one isn't. A Main.NewText call is there for debugging purposes and displays the name of the texture for each DrawData object.
Error: I placed calls to this method in several ModPlayer methods for testing purposes. When I do, the player fails to render and clicking "play" is disallowed. Selecting "New" to create a new character crashes the game with no error log.
I removed the locations in other methods and just kept one in FrameEffects. I was able to obtain this error log:
Code:
MyMod/Items/Armor/MyChest_Body
  at Terraria.ModLoader.Mod.GetTexture (System.String name) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
  at MyMod.MyPlayer.bodyTexMatch () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
  at MyMod.MyPlayer.FrameEffects () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
  at Terraria.ModLoader.PlayerHooks.FrameEffects (Terraria.Player player) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
  at Terraria.Player.PlayerFrame () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
  at Terraria.Main.DrawMenu (Microsoft.Xna.Framework.GameTime gameTime) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
  at Terraria.Main.do_Draw (Microsoft.Xna.Framework.GameTime gameTime) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
  at Terraria.Main.Draw (Microsoft.Xna.Framework.GameTime gameTime) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
Tested both with and without including "MyMod/" at the beginning of the directory. It seems that, for whatever reason, mod.GetTexture is unable to get the texture, even though I am 100% certain that the given texture is in the correct directory, and that there are no misspellings, down to the capitalization. I am also certain that the texture has been loaded, since my chest armor does display on the character.

Problem. When I open the .exe that's supposed to open vanilla Terraria, it activates tModLoader anyway. It's only happening after deleting the original vanilla .exe due to a version numbering problem and installing tModLoader again.
Well, the installer might have seen a modded Terraria.exe and thought it was the vanilla, renaming it to Terraria v1.3.1.exe even though it technically wasn't. Just have steam verify, then reinstall.

tModLoader is essentially a mod that provides a way to load your own mods without having to work directly with Terraria's source code itself. This means you can easily make mods that are compatible with other people's mods, save yourself the trouble of having to decompile and recompile Terraria.exe, and escape from having to understand all of the obscure "intricacies" of Terraria's source code. It is made to work for Terraria 1.3+.

tModLoader saves worlds and players separately from vanilla worlds and players. Vanilla worlds and players can be ported to tModLoader worlds and players simply by copying over save files. Modded content is saved in files separate from .plr and .wld files, so you can also port modded players and worlds back to vanilla at the cost of losing your modded stuff.

My goal for tModLoader it to make it simple as possible while giving the modder powerful control over the game. A secondary goal is that anyone who works with tModLoader enough will be able to make their own standalone mods. tModLoader is designed in a way as to minimize the effort required for me to update to future Terraria versions. Feel free to either suggest hooks or push hooks to Github (link in a later section).

Also please don't email me, I almost never check my email.

Documentation
Link to Documentation
The documentation contains everything you need to know about what tModLoader has to offer. It contains information on all the features, hooks, etc., in tModLoader, complete with descriptions on what everything is used for. Unlike other modding API's, this documentation is kept up-to-date as features are added. Do note that often it will even be ahead of the current released version.

Example Mod
I use an example mod to test features that I add to tModLoader. You can download a zip file here so you can use it to learn how to make your own things.
Example Mod v0.8.1.2 Download

Instructions

To create a mod, first run tModLoader. Click on the "Mod Sources" button in the main menu, then click on the "Open Sources" button to open the folder which contains your mod sources. In this folder, create another folder for your mod, then put all of your .cs files and .png files in that folder. When you are done, build your mod from the "Mod Sources" menu . If the mod failed to build, the game will show you one compile error, and give you an option to view all compile errors as a text file. If the mod successfully builds you will be returned to the main menu. If the game crashes or a mod fails to load, the game will display the error and also give you the option to view the error as a text file. Mods that crash on loading are automatically disabled. Mods are automatically enabled when they are built.

If you are using Mac/Linux, it is possible that your mod will fail to build, no matter what you do. In this case, you will have to pre-compile your mod (see documentation on build.txt for more info). Detailed instructions can be found here: http://forums.terraria.org/index.ph...der-a-modding-api.23726/page-526#post-1001200

To distribute a mod, once you have built it, click on the "Mods" button in the main menu, then click on the "Open Mods Folder" button. You will find a file with the .tmod extension for you to distribute.

To install someone else's mod, simply copy the .tmod file to your own Mods folder.

Am I the only one that is getting my modded terraria deleted from windows defender when I try to open it?? :( i was just workin on a mod, i went to test, then BOOM. Not working.

I want to try to make my Own mod but i do not understand how to use the ItemID or the TileID ext.
If someone could help me I would be very happy

All the items in the base game are indexed according to those IDs. Because the type (ID) of an item or tile is stored in an integer, you can't just use the item name instead. With the ID classes, you can look up the type that goes with the item and then use it for logic.

So for instance, if you want to add a Dirt Block to an item ingredient, then AddIngredient("DirtBlock"); won't work, because this overload of AddIngredient needs an int to function. You have to use AddIngredient(ItemID.DirtBlock); to give AddIngredient the type it needs.
