I simply want to copy and paste some comments from a recent Chippy video that I feel sums up my frustration perfectly.

To be honest I wish they wouldn't have announced the update so early. The wait has been ridiculous and I know people are tired of waiting for it. They could have released a smaller update awhile ago and then a follow up update after that that includes the things they are currently working on. I appreciate that it's a free update but building up hype for going on 2 years now is getting old.

@bucknaked1267 agreed and i wish at least some expectations had been set earlier otherwise i would have just started my next playthrough already instead of thinking "well it's surely got to be done soon". as you said i appreciate the content is free but it sounds like they need to reign themselves in sometimes and not put in every idea they have in one update.

To be clear, I truly do appreciate the love and effort that Relogic puts into the game, but dragging this update out for this long is unnecessary. This is posted by Relogic themselves concerning the 1.4.5 update: (I'm literally copying and pasting their words.) BTW this was posted Nov. 3 2022, almost 2 years ago.

That's why we are revealing today that Terraria 1.4.5 - at least part of which will include Terraria x Dead Cells content - will be coming your way in 2023!

It's nice to see so many patient players that can realize the hard work and dedication being put into the update. Admittedly, I do tend to be a little impatient (I guess we are all wired somewhat differently) and I don't believe we are "owed" anything by Relogic. Heavens knows they have breathed new life into their game many, many times and have never charged for it which is mind-blowing considering how so many "AAA" game studios are trying to squeeze every last penny from their fan base and often under-delivering on the quality of their product. I guess the TLDR takeaway is that I'm frustrated that they started the hype for this years ago and have dragged it out for so long. To quote bladewolf89 "it sounds like they need to reign themselves in sometimes and not put in every idea they have in one update." Anyway, if nothing else, it was at least cathartic to rant for a little while. Still looking forward to the update, but my excitement has started to wane over the last few months. Guess that's it.

Honestly I haven't been very hyped for this update for the past few SOTG's. None of the stuff they're adding is very exciting anymore. There's a point when so many new reveals for an update stop being exiting and almost feel like filler. Sure, a lot of it is kinda cool, but I personally would rather the update come out sooner than potentially having to wait for several more weeks for lightning. But it doesn't matter too much. We could be getting no update like they said they would, since they said they'd stop like 4 years ago, and all the updates since are just great fan service (and not in a weird way!).

We fully understand that a lot of people are disappointed and perhaps even a bit upset at what seems like an endless delay for this update.

Two major things have contributed to this dragging out longer that we expected:
  • Change of scope. Obviously this update has gone well beyond the initial Dead Cells crossover material. Some of the new stuff - like new world seeds - take several iterations of testing/fixing bugs/retesting to get things right. Perhaps there has been a bit of feature creep, but I think the boundaries are pretty well set now and we're working on finishing up without adding more major tasks and sidebars to this update.
  • Loss of a key team member. It cannot be overstated how important Leinfors was to this company, the dev team and the testing group. His sudden loss took the wind out of all of our sails for quite some time. He kept everything and every one focused and on track better than anyone else, and his guidance and leadership is sorely missed.
Re-Logic has never promised a hard and fast release date for any update before now. There is usually a few days notice, and the release drops. People tend to treat any mention of a date or time frame as a promise, but it is not that. The update will be released when Re-Logic feels it is ready, as it always has been. A rushed release to meet an arbitrary deadline always turns out badly.

Re-Logic sees the comments like those listed above; there is no reason to recount complaints from other sites here. Many of those same people have posted the same things here anyway. It also does nothing to make the update come any sooner.
