Other - 4 Things That Will Make Terraria Perfect! -

- CONTEXT -

I've always wondered what a game needs to be perfect.
The truth is, we can't make a game perfect for everyone, because everyone has different preferences.
-
Some people like RPGs, others like FPS, others like Survival, and so on.
But perhaps we shouldn't try to create a perfect game for everyone, but rather a game that is perfect within its category and for its respective target audience.
Kind of obvious to be honest.
-
Anyway, here are 4 things that will make Terraria Perfect!

~ 1 - CHOOSE STARTING CLASS ~

This is something the community has been asking for for years, and I honestly don't know why it hasn't been added yet.
-
It would be interesting, and this is just my idea, that,
just as the Zennit is crafted with the Short Copper Sword we start with, we could craft a definitive weapon for the other classes with their starting weapon.

~ 2 - ALTERNATIVES TO GRINDING ~

Spending hours trying to get a Rod of Discord or Slime Staff can bring great happiness when you get it for the first time,
but repeating this in every playthrough can be very boring and annoying.
-
I suggest adding alternative ways that are equally difficult but less RNG-dependent.
-
For example, being able to craft the Slime Staff with Gelatin Crystal and Hallowed Bar.
This way the player will need to be in HardMode and have defeated at least one Mechanical Boss.

~ 3 - LESS WAITING ~

Having to wait is an overused resource in Terraria.
Just look at the list of everything you need to wait in Terraria:

  • Wait for an NPC to arrive;
  • Wait for a certain time of day to fight a boss;
  • Wait for the day to pass to do a fishing quest;
  • Wait for enemies to spawn;
  • Wait for things like plants, Gelatin Crystal, Plantera Bulb, to appear;
  • Wait for events to occur.
Some things are okay to wait for, but others are not.

~ 4 - REASON TO KEEP PLAYING AFTER MOON LORD ~

Although we can build and obtain the items we still don't have, many may question the purpose of doing all that.
-
Why should I keep trying to make the world more beautiful if that world is empty?
Why should I get better equipment if there is no enemy to stand against me?
-
Of course, adding stronger enemies after Moon Lord is stupid, as he is the final boss and should mean the end of the journey.
But what if we could use these characters with advanced equipment for something else?
-
I suggest a "
Challenge Mode".
-
You know how when you defeat the Moon Lord in a world, that world gets marked with a crown?
It would be interesting if the players were also marked and only those players could enter the "Challenge" worlds.
-
These worlds should pose a challenge for players with Post-Moon Lord gear.
I imagine it would be a world where you fight endlessly with powerfull and unique bosses until you die.
When you die, your character is deleted and your score is shown.
The score record will also be shown in the world criation menu.
-
This would give players a reason to continue searching for items to become stronger even after they have defeated Moon Lord in their worlds.

Well, that's all, I hope you enjoyed it.
Leave a comment.

i think they said no to that

When you die, your character is deleted and your score is shown.
This would most likely discourage most players from even trying this challenge mode. Nobody wants to be punished for losing a boss rush by having the character they spent hours with get deleted.

oh yes delete the world but keep the high score on player and make world easy to recreate

Wacht tot een NPC-aankomst;
Ik ga akkoord met deze suggestie, omdat naar de slachtering van een grote boss alle NPC's zijn dood en dat duurt te lang dat alle terugkommen. Mijn suggestie is dat NPC kunnen ook 's nachts intrekken.

This is meaningless, though. The only thing that "choosing your starting class" achieves is skipping the process of crafting your first weapon. That's an absolutely miniscule part of the game. At absolute most, this lets you skip crafting a Flinx Staff, assuming that's what you go for as your first Summon weapon.

Also, adding Zenith equivalents for other classes is lip service and nothing else. Those weapons would have to be exactly as good as Zenith, which means just being Zenith, and Zenith is so powerful already that your class does not matter when using it.

There's already plenty of ways to achieve this exact effect. Shimmer, boosting your luck, some items have crafting recipes that didn't used to, and some items you can buy from NPCs on certain seeds or in certain biomes. For example, you can purchase the Slime Staff from the Princess in a CelebrationMk10 seed.
~ 3 - LESS WAITING ~

Having to wait is an overused resource in Terraria.
Just look at the list of everything you need to wait in Terraria:

  • Wait for an NPC to arrive;
  • Wait for a certain time of day to fight a boss;
  • Wait for the day to pass to do a fishing quest;
  • Wait for enemies to spawn;
  • Wait for things like plants, Gelatin Crystal, Plantera Bulb, to appear;
  • Wait for events to occur.
Some things are okay to wait for, but others are not.
So what's the suggestion? Implement ways to skip large parts of the game? Why not just do something else while you're waiting? It's not as though you're ever really going to run out of things to do in Terraria. You could just try building something.
~ 4 - REASON TO KEEP PLAYING AFTER MOON LORD ~

Although we can build and obtain the items we still don't have, many may question the purpose of doing all that.

And what then? If there's a post-Moon Lord challenge, what happens when people finish that and start asking for post-post-Moon Lord challenges? How would a post-Moon Lord challenge even be balanced?

the other points are fair but

if its an infinite boss rush like some people have suggested then that could work and would be a great place to use zenith and other post moonlord items

An infinite boss rush still wouldn't be a challenge if you have the Zenith. It's just that good. The only parts that pose any kind of challenge at all would be Moon Lord and daytime Empress, and maybe Duke Fishron and Betsy if you have bad mobility, which you don't, since you've beaten Moon Lord.

maybe multiple and buffed

Class confinement won’t be a part of this because of pickaxes and shield of cthulhu, so this is basically just “choose a weapon” and always devolves into picking the strongest of those weapons instead of actually setting a precedent for a class.

If you need a slime staff that badly just go to a celeb world and buy one from the princess you spawn with. Rod of Discord also can be obtained in a similar fashion as prehardmode hallow has exclusively chaos elementals underground rather than its full roster of enemies.
~ 3 - LESS WAITING ~

Some things are okay to wait for, but others are not.
You realize that you can do other things while you wait, right? Terraria doesn’t exactly have a low amount of stuff to do. Also what alternatives are you proposing?

An endless mode of some kind would be nice but please rethink the way you did it here lol. Adding unique bosses to challenge mode is basically just adding post moon lord bosses which you explicitly said you didn’t endorse, and deleting your character feels like a typo of some kind rather than an actual mechanic you intended to put in the suggestion.
