Weapons & Equip A Collection of Summoner Weapon Concepts

Duke Fishron
These are some concepts I’ve thought up over the years as Summoner began to be set apart as its own class. I realize it’s very unlikely any of these will be added due to the smaller nature of the coming update, but I figured I’d throw a hail mary and post ‘em anyway.

Devourer Staff
  • Dropped by breaking Shadow Orbs
  • Summons a Devourer (stacking minion)
  • It’s basically a weaker Stardust Dragon for pre-hardmode
  • Minion gets a speed bonus when the summoning player is underground or lower

Creeper Staff
  • Dropped by breaking Crimson Hearts
  • Summons a Creeper (minion)
  • Creepers orbit the player, ramming into enemies that get too near

Apiary Staff
  • Crafted with (21) Bee Wax
  • Summons an Apiary (sentry)
  • Launches bees at approaching enemies
  • Bees are boosted by the Hive Pack

Phalanx Staff
  • Found in locked golden chests in the Dungeon
  • Summons a Boney Hand (minion)
  • Boney Hands crawl along surfaces and walls like spiders, dealing contact damage
  • “They’re helping hands!”

Clinger Staff (name taken)
  • Crafted using Ebonwood, Cursed Flames, and Souls of Night
  • Summons a Clinger (minion)
  • Resembles the Clingers in the hardmode underground Corruption. It stays close to the player, with the “root” of its stalk attached to the player’s back.
  • Attacks by firing cursed fireballs that have limited penetration and inflict the cursed inferno debuff

Sticker Staff
  • Crafted using Shadewood, Ichor, and Souls of Night
  • Summons a Sticker (minion)
  • Stickers idly hover around the player and attack by spitting at enemies, dealing some direct damage and some AoE splash, both components having a chance to inflict the ichor debuff

Crystal Obelisk Staff
  • Crafted using Pearlwood, Crystal Shards, and Souls of Light
  • Summons a Crystal Obelisk (stacking sentry)
  • No idea how this would attack, but the concept of having a stacking sentry summon that looks like a giant hallowed crystal seemed pretty cool. Perhaps this could be a repurposed Rainbow Crystal Staff?

Shadow Portal Staff
  • Dropped by Goblin Summoner Warlock
  • Summons a Shadowflame Portal (stacking minion)
  • The portal continuously hovers behind the player, firing shadowflame apparitions at approaching enemies, inflicting the shadowflame debuff on hit

Shaolin Tortoise Staff
  • Crafted using a Light Shard, a Dark Shard, a Turtle Shell, and Souls of Light/Night
  • Summons a Shaolin Tortoise (minion)
  • The minions are anthropomorphic tortoises, similar in size to the Pirate Staff minions. Also similar to the pirates, they can take on different appearances armed with different martial arts weapons
  • They attack by first dashing at the enemy (guaranteed crit) followed by latching to it and dealing rapid contact damage
  • If the player takes damage, they perform a special attack by throwing an infinitely piercing shuriken towards the player’s current position, attempting to damage any enemies near the player

Djinn’s Bottle
  • Crafted using (1) Desert Spirt Lamp, (2) Forbidden Fragments, and (12) Souls of Light
  • Summons an Astral Djinn (stacking minion, max 9)
  • The minion is a djinn with a female human form with an overall middle-eastern complexion, in an outfit that’s some combination of the titular characters from the Shantae games and the I Dream of Jeannie TV series
  • Similar to the Desert Tiger, each set of 3 summons takes on a different form. For this minion, she starts as a two-block tall “chibi” character, then goes to a height similar to the player and NPCs, then finally ends up four blocks tall
  • As the player moves, she flies just behind and slightly higher than the player, but if the player is standing still flat on the ground she will do the same – perhaps with some goofy idle animations
  • The Astral Djinn attacks by launching explosive fireballs at enemies. These fireballs look similar to the ones launched by the Spirit Flame weapon, but they are a vibrant hot pink instead of dark purple. These fireballs get stronger and more rapid as the minion increases in power

Lihzahrd Totem Staff
  • Dropped by the Golem
  • Summons a Lihzahrd Totem (stacking sentry, max 4)
  • Each totem on the pole is a symbolic representation of one family
  • On the first summon, a totem head appears on the ground, and each summon after that adds another totem head.
  • The totem heads feature one of the attacks from the jungle temple traps, in this order:
    • Super Dart
    • Spear
    • Spiky Ball
    • Flame

Elf Copter Staff
  • Dropped by Santa-NK1
  • Summons an Elf Copter (minion)
  • Elf Copters fly around and fire streams of bullets at enemies
  • “I love the smell of sugarplums in the morning.”
