Ya see how this chart is kinda empty?
i wanna fill it.
Let me fill it.

Appearance descriptions will be provided for more unique designs, but if it's self-explanatory then i won't bother. Quantity over quality in this one, folks
Same goes for functions--i'll only be giving the key parts, damage and whatnot is not an objective here

Oh and, due to the sheer insanity of making 11 different items just for hardmode, i'm only gonna do pre-hardmode here and probably do hardmode in a later post because this is one i cannot do in one sitting

PRE-HARDMODE

Speckled Goldfish (Forest)
A friend!
Pet
A cosmetic recoloring of the goldfish, being white with orange splotches as opposed to the usual yellow. otherwise, everything animation-wise translates over pretty 1 to 1; walks on land, swims through water/air, etcetera. Based on the real-life Speckled Goldfish, the Shubunkin Goldfish.

Lamprey (Jungle)
Whip
short range for a whip, shortest whip in the game
Tag: Provides minor lifesteal whenever a summon hits tagged creature. tag disappears after this triggers and must be reapplied.

Weathered Fishbone (Desert)
Magic Wand
Fires a small cluster of low-velocity lingering sand bubbles that pop and deal damage in a small area when they hit a block or enemy. they don't fly very far, so your best bet is to bring enemies into the bubbles.

Red Hatchetfish (Crimson)
Ranged Non-consumable Throwable
Very Slow use time
Throw forward a Red Hatchetfish. On hit, 50% chance to bounce harmlessly and only do 75% damage, and 50% chance for it to stick and continue doing chip damage to the target. Unlimited use.
To make up for stepping on Frost Daggerfish's toes, it has zero pierce and a much slower use time.
Appearance: To mirror the Purple Clubberfish's "based on a tool item but loses the tool function", The hatchetfish looks like.. well, a hatchet-shaped fish. doesn't act like an axe, though, and more closely resembles the actual IRL Hatchetfish.
Counterpart to the Purple Clubberfish--since Corruption's fishing weapons are melee Pre-HM and Ranged Hardmode, i switched the order with Ranged Pre-HM and Melee (bladetongue) Hardmode

If yall have ideas for the hardmode ones, tell me here! if i think it fits, i'll slap it in, maybe tweak it a bit, and credit you for it!

Fire ima cook some hm ones

i would like this
hm desert could get a whip, or maybe a faster, fishier version of the magic carpet

True a fish or aquatic creature for the desert

Alright, so, feedback;
1: it doesn't necessarily have to be a fish. It could be underwater foliage or even a piece of flotsam, so long as it's functional. (One of my forest ideas was a boulder wrapped in kelp as a flail, but I decided the starter biome item shouldn't be related to any specific class)
2: try and bring something new to the table. "x but better" is better suited as a direct upgrade to X in the first place; fishing is inherently out of the way anyways, so its items should at least have a partially unique function or use something in a new way, without being particularly overpowered compared to the usual pre-mech stuff

Yep I made a indirect upgrade of the prehm swordfish

sturgeon stabber
“Don’t use as a Scalpel”
has the ability to quick stab enemies dealing 4x damage in one strike (the spear head splits into 4 dealing rapid damage)
Fished from hardmode forest

Eeletric Powerline
“Whoops Downed line”
sticks to enemies slow dot while the eel is attached if it’s attached tag damage bursts deal 2x damage
minion tag damage releases electric bursts
Fished during a storm while in the jungle

Arctic Rattle
“slippery Toy”
Summons a Baby Leopard seal to follow the player
Fished from the hardmode Ice Biome

Anyone mind if I suggest the lionfish or stonefish as something for HM
Maybe lionfish could inflict acid venom
A stonefish could be a debuff version of the explosive trap, it just sits there and hurts those who step on it
Or a sand dollar for the desert
It's a boomerang

I wont lie, this is a really cool way to make fishing more interesting for everyone.

I prefer getting onetime unique items and weapons instead of constant grind for consumable potions and RNG crates.

Sure lionfish could be a magic weapon for the hm ocean and stonefish is a cavern throwing weapon

Def sand dollar boomerang or pupfish summon

Not doing depth-based biomes (underground biomes + cavern biomes) with the exception being hell
if i did, that'd be an additional fish for the underground version of Hallow, Corruption, Crimson, Jungle, Desert, Ice, all Altered Desert and all Altered Ice biomes
that's 24 more weapons (12 per difficulty)

a stonefish would also be very easy to confuse for the pre-hardmode rockfish, which could be a joke but could also be a discouraging factor (which sucks, because stonefish are cool)

It doesn't necessarily have to be a real fish, or make immediate sense in terms of species in location, as long as it matches the theme of the biome!
