prior to beating wall of flesh you automatically unlock hard mode. it makes your world more change and be filled with all sorts of goodies.
this guide will walk you through all of the hardmode bosses and give you recommended accessories, weapons, an armor.
when you beat the wall of flesh, you get a hammer. go to the crimson\corruption and break all the alters, ore will spawn in your world . note that the first ore "cobalt or palladium" needs a molten pickaxe.
DISCLAIMER: Terraria is a game with numerous class setups. this is just mage stuff I found very useful. plus, Terraria is a game that is best enjoyed completely blind. just keep that in mind.
pre-queen slime\mechbosses
the gear that you should have before queen slime and mech bosses.
accessories
sorcerer's emblem "dropped from wall of flesh with an uncommon drop chance "12.50 percent rate"
mana cloak: made at tinkerers workshop with Mana Flower and Star Cloak
celestial cuffs: "band of starpower+Shackles"
Weapons: Golden Shower: souls of night+ tome + Icor @ bookcase
meteor staff: meteorite+pixie dust+souls of light @ mythril anvil\orichalcum anvil
Nimbus rod: drops from angry nimbus during rain
Crystal serpent: fished rarely in the underground hallow
Sky fracture: Magic missile+2 light shards+ 16 souls of light
Armor:
armor is a lot more simple in hardmode. armors have magic helmets. that's all I got to say.
the most viable ore is titanium\adamantite. get lots of it and go to the mythril anvil and craft the new furnace. craft the bars, then go to your
mythril anvil and craft the armor.
pre-plantera
items you should have before the plantera fight.
accessories
Celestial emblem: celestial magnet+ avenger emblem "any emblem and all three of the mech's soul
sorcerer's emblem "dropped from wall of flesh with an uncommon drop chance "12.50 percent rate"

armor:
you can make some chlorophyte armor out of chlorophyte ore found in the jungle, which can be mined with the new pickaxe that you got with the hallowed bars and mech souls
or
the much simpler way: use the bars you got from thee mechs and make hallowed armor with it.
pre-golem
the gear you should have before the golem battle.
accessories: there isn't really anything so just reforge your current ones.

magnet sphere: rarely obtained from enemies in the post plantera dungeon
Inferno Fork: obtained rarely from diabolists in the post-plantera dungeon
Razor Pine: uncommonly obtained from the Ever Scream "Frost moon enemy"
Blizzard staff: obtained uncommonly from the Frost Queen "Frost moon enemy"
Armor: Specter Armor
in order to craft the Specter Set, you will need specter bars.
Specter bars: Ectoplasm [54] "dropped from post plantera dungeon enemies"
+Chlorophyte bars [54]. you will need 54 bars for the whole set.
Pre-Cultist
