This is really great suggestion and make sense yet there're something in this that I don't agree with.
When he lives within the dungeon, he will slowly turns into the Old Man. The Dungeon Guardians will not appear if he turns into the Old Man again. Talking to him at night will make Skeletron appear.
Natural Dungeon isn't suitable house. So made his house with Dungeon brick? or move him near Dungeon?, what would happen to those cultists who worshiping mysterious tablet when he turn to the old man?

No longer random but costs more materials to get to Legendary, Godly, Unreal or Mythical. Example: Copper Shortsword requires 1 Copper bar for each reforging status. Daybreak, the Solar spear will require more Solar fragments. This affects all weapons in their respective categories.
I support this but he could say that which material you need for this sword or I'll spend a day to find the right material for my enchanted sword.

Oooh, fourth NPC to reforge weapon is the Witch Doctor, but he wants to see that you are passionate about summoning as he is. Buy 5-20 gold of stuff from his store and he will allow you to reforge Summoning weapons when talking to him.
Goblin need material, wizard need ore, and witch doctor will reforge if you buy his stuff but what about arm dealer? what does he need for you reforge your gun?
or you complete his quest and He'll reforge your stuff too?

"Blackbeard"
Ironic thing is one of the possible pirate name is "Black Beard". The name just awfully similar just change his name to something else like "Whitebeard".

  • By living in the Dungeon, I meant he needs to be around the place he originally was. You know that big room where the Old Man usually roams? He needs to be around the dungeon for him to go insane. Those cultists will act the same as before. Just do their cultist things. If the Old Man walks by them, he will not be hurt. Hurting them during the Skeletron battle, however, will make them attack you and maybe cause the Lunar Event so be careful about that.
  • Of course, they will tell you which material you need to upgrade your weapons. When you put the weapon in the reforging slot, they'll ask for some money and their respected items required to reforge it. An example I gave is that the Star Cannon will need Iron and Fallen Stars to reforged. Another example is the Coin Gun requiring Silver/Tungsten and more coin than regular.
  • All you have to do in order to get his reforging abilities is completing his quest regarding the Nurse. That quest also gives you the ability to buy the Illegal Gun Parts.
  • Blackbeard would be removed from his name list. Makes no sense that he should be called Blackbeard when his beard is red, don't you think? Give the name to his rival, like I suggested.

Thanks for your feedbacks and I hope this clears up your mind! I also have added some clarification into the things you mentioned. Look for them in the Clothier, Arms Dealer, Tinkerer and Pirate's categories.

oh woah, best suggestion ever 11/10 would read again
oh BTW support

I like the Ultimate sacrifice idea, since you DO need to cleanse the world from a evil/bloody threat but doing it is by far the most choreing thing to do!

Another question is, what if you do the thing she requests (sacrifice) will the Angler still want fish from the Corruption/Crimson & Hallow?

Yes, of course. If the Angler stops wanting crimson fish and you know what, the Clentaminator will have next to no uses after you sacrifice the Dryad. You can very easily create an artificial biome with a big lake and incase it in a box so it doesn't spread.

Dryad is hardcore, sacrificing herself for some random guy

I like the idea of the guide giving super simple quests.

this is the greatest idea ever i shall follow
[DOUBLEPOST=1438025904,1438025506][/DOUBLEPOST]amazing.........

What about people who already managed to get rid of those biomes in their hardmode worlds? It would be nice to get some extra reward from dryad, like a permament Nature's Blessing on your character or some exclusive pet (since there was no new pets in 1.3), also some of us would rather keep her alive.

Anyone who managed to remove every crimson/corruption/hallowed in their world would obviously not care about the quest since they already did it. This is just mostly a very huge shortcut for the people who wants a crimson/so on-world free. Consequences has to come along where the Dryad is now a spirit that you can only talk to at night. I wanted this to be the end-game equivalent of sacrificing the Guide to start Hardmode.

Great consequences brings great rewards.
Killing the Dryad and giving away 100 of every souls + a portal gun is the consequences, and your world being rid of all evil/hallow is its reward.

I don't think the Portal Gun should be the Moon Lord's soul, what, with Luminite and all.

Agreed, if anything add a new item specifically used for this that drops from the Moon Lord (Lunar Core/Heart)

I kinda like the Portal Gun being the Moon Lord's soul, however I agree and went with a new item that its only purpose is for Dryad's quest. I wanted the name to be more sinister, but I am pretty happy with this item's name.

Thanks for the feedbacks, look in the Dryad's category to see the changes.

Thanks! However, I feel like adding a new soul should include new items as well (because otherwise these Souls are pretty useless once you've already used them with the Dryad).

I disagree. The dryad is, in my mind, someone WAY more powerful than the Player who restrains herself to not become Evil. She would honestly be the only one able to use these souls since the Moon Lord is the 2nd strongest boss (He IS Cthulhu's brother afterall). I would be really happy with another soul that serves one purpose, like the Soul of Flight. Soul of Flight is for wings. Soul of Delight is used for something great.

I'm a bit late, replying and all, but I don't support. I'm not saying this isn't allowed to be added, because you have your opinions and I have mine. This adds to much to a simple jump in and play game. Making the NPC take more to get would be super annoying for newbies to figure out considering they don't even know how to play the game at all. Plus to those who want to do speed runs and need certain NPCs, this would consume more time than needed to speed run for certain items/defeating certain bosses.

This game does not prioritize its features to work around Speedruns. Speedruns is something that people do when they're bored and/or have 100% Terraria and wish for better challenges. If new balancing happens, or new features, speed runners have to find new ways to complete their challenges fast. That's why they're speed runners. For the rest of us who enjoy playing it like normal, adding something else to the NPC other than "Hey, I have a shop. I'll buy anything from you even though I only sell Dyes" is something that should happen. Give them more spice.

I do understand that some people might not like this suggestion because they simply don't like talking to NPCs too much in a game like this, or they just simply don't like overall idea, but saying Speed running will be affected by <suggestion> is not a valid argument.

Thank for you feedback!

The changes to the NPCs are too much.
- Generally, I hate the idea that NPCs can only buy certain things for you. It takes more time to sell items and is less efficient.
- I HATE the idea of Stock. This would make getting the Endless Musket Ball Pouch/Endless Quiver MUCH more frustrating and time-consuming.
- The Merchant is supposed to sell/buy things, nothing more, nothing less. I don't want to rebuild my house just to make this guy sell more things.
- The Mechanic's 'trust' feature is a little too random and out-of-character. I'm sure she'd trust you enough because you freed her from the DUNGEON.
- Reforging should stay a feature to the Goblin Tinkerer. I don't see any other NPCs that should have reforging abilities.
- The Clothier's Insanity Meter would be a pain in the neck for players who built their house near the Dungeon/of out Dungeon Bricks/Walls.
- The Guide should stay as he is. New players would have a LOT of trouble not knowing how to build a house/craft things without him.
- I don't see why the Merchant has limited stock when you can fight a gigantic shark or the 'Moon Lord'. It's too realistic.

Overall, just too complicated, troublesome, and time-consuming. Terraria is already a decently long game.
I don't support this.

  • The idea for all NPC having their stores restricted is to make the Merchant MUCH better. Why would the Dye Trader buy a Horseman's Blade when his specialty is making dyes? Doing this will make the Merchant the #1 choice to sell your random junk.
  • Honestly, I took a chance with this because I thought this would be interesting. I am not 100% sure that if this suggestion made it, that the restricted inventory will be here, but I thought I'd put the idea out there.
  • I wanted to make the Merchant an NPC that is the best at trading things. It's only normal for the Merchant to get a bigger house in order to get more stock, wouldn't it?
  • She trusts you with her life and agrees that your combat abilities are good, but she has not seen you build something with wires. She allows you to buy simple wiring stuff, and when you meet the quota she asks for she will sell you more wire stuff.
  • The Arms Dealer falls real hard in the end-game. You mostly only just buy regular bullets from him. Giving him the ability to reforge guns/launchers and others will make him a much better NPC. Same with Wizard and the Witch Doctor, who also falls off.
  • He wouldn't become insane with player-placed Dungeon Bricks or if he live NEAR the Dungeon. He needs to live inside the dungeon with world-placed bricks. The only problem I see is if someone built their base inside the actual dungeon.
  • I reduced the spawning timer from 10 to 3 because of this exact reason. It only takes 3 minutes before the guide spawns, it is there for the player to do some small stuff on their own and explore before the guide appears.
  • It wasn't suggested with the idea of realism, it was suggested with the idea of restriction.
Thanks for the feedbacks! I hope I gave you some extra information on the choices in the suggestions you mentioned.

So now the big room at the Dungeon entrance is now suitable for only clothier?
