Simply put, its a bit annoying looking for something specific and having other rare mobs and ores blocking the feed.
For example, if you're looking for a nymph but something like hallowed mimics keep spawning, you might miss out on a few nymphs if you're unlucky. Or if you're looking for the goblin or wizard, and the old shaking chest keeps spawning in when you don't have golden keys, it might make the search take longer than needed. This is especially true for the metal detector, but ill get into that in a second.
For the lifeform analyzer, maybe have a button in the bestiary for rare creatures, that can be toggled on and off by the player. something like this:
The lifeform analyzer icon in the bestiery, for all the mobs classified as "rare creatures", that can be toggled on and off. If it is toggled off, the lifeform analyzer doesnt display that creature.
(while we're at the bestiery, it'd be nice for critters that can be used as bait to desplay their bait power. but thats a little off topic for this post)
For the metal detector, ive ran into this issue a lot. like looking for chests in hardmode after breaking a lot of alters, especially in the jungle, since all the hardmode ores and life fruit have higher priority over chests. Or if you need a lot of desert fossils for whatever reason, all the regular ores take priority over that.
So maybe there could be a menu that looks like the bestiary, could pop up when right clicking the metal detector icon when its in your inventory. In the menu, you can toggle on and off certain things, similar to the lifeform analyzer idea above. here is a rough visualization of the idea:
Of course, it would have all the ores and other things a metal detector can detect, i just didnt have the time to make a version with all of them. This is also very rough idea of how the menu will look like, i just dont have a proper idea for how it would look.
This is an idea that i think about a lot when this sort of thing happens in my playthoughs. I would love if something similar was added to the game, to make some part of playing even more enjoyable. Regardless, I love terraria, and if anyone in the relogic team is reading this, thank you for the wonderful game, and many great memories.
