Game Mechanics Ability to sit on furniture.

Is this a nice idea?

So, we have this HUGE range of chairs, right? And the only use is to make a valid housing unit. The NPCs can sit on them, but us players can't . I am suggesting the addition of sittable-on chairs. All you have to do is go over to a chair and right click it, and it would put your character in a sitting position.

This mechanic would be useful for a nice looking server screenshot, or machinima, if you want, say, all the characters eating dinner.

Thanks for reading, constructive criticism is always appreciated

The devs I believe directly said the reason that sitting was limited to NPC's is that every possible clothing/armor/vanity combination set would require independent animations/sprites.

Afterall think about how many different vanity sets armorsa and acessories their are. and now realize that any combination of them with respect to their catagory(head/body/legs/accessory ) would require an independent sprite. The equation for calculating this is actually a factorial equation meaning that it rapidly explodes

For n objects the number of possible combinations is represented by n!/(r!*(n-r)! where n is the number of possible objects and r is the number of simultaneous options (which in the case for the head slot would be 1) however the accessory slots would optimally require an r of 12 and a really big n value... 0_o

From this hopefully you can see that the result would be an absurd number of sprites needed for this single feature a task beyond even an army of spriters....

In fact even with everyone on earth spriteing you probably still wouldn't be able to create sprites for every possible permeation in the span of several human generations.

Well, umm, sorry about the EXTREMELY late reply, but i totally get it now XD It would be a ridiculous amount of work just to implement one single thing. Oh well, at least i tried :D

... Surely the devs already have different sprites for each part of the body, surely they aren't creating sprites for each possible combination of headgear with every single piece of chest armour with every single piece of leg armour with every single possible visible accessory. That would already be just as crazy as what you have suggested above.

Even if this is an issue, alternate suggestion to make this more of a possibility: have the player revert to their base appearance (no armour/accesories) when sitting down. Let's face it, would you really sit down to dinner in full armour anyway?
