Working as Designed Able to jump 1 block higher when close to a wall

I created a brand new player and world combo to test the 1.4.1 features.

I started digging down during my first night, and after placing my platforms at the wrong distance, I notices is that I could jump an extra block when going right at the same time as jumping.
On the screenshot below, you can see that my platform spacing is wrong, and a normal jump can't reach the topmost platform:

And if I go to the right while jumping:

This is intentional. You are "stepping up" that last little bit. It only gives you a slight boost to height, but if that height is attempting to jump up to a block like this, it'll bump you up a bit.

With platforms(correct me if I’m wrong) you can press the up button and it will bring you up too right?

I believe that upward motion is used to allow players to smoothly walk up rough slopes.

It is not related to fact the the wall is in two different materials, btw.
