Chests are already pretty substantial and easy to make/find, and there's a lot of different items that serve as additional inventory (safes, defenders forge, chester, etc)
 
An Idea would be a backpack that takes a space in the body armour slot, but gives a lot more inventory space, so it's more unique, has a tradeoff, and maybe even have this be a pre-hardmode item so it won't be too useless later on.
