I wanted to ask ‘Why does this exist?’ But I think already know.

It depends on who you ask. Some people just like the sort of real life stuff being seasoned into video games from time to time. Heck, relationship-building is an integral part of Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon titles, and people love those. Things can start getting weird with the actual dating sim genre of games though. The stories of real-life men marrying their digital waifus in Japan come to mind anytime I see a dating sim advertised on Steam.

I approve of this idea of marrying NPC's hell take in one further by marrying bosses because who doesn't like Empress of Light *hears screaming terrarians*.
