Other Additional Accessibility Setting for people with Misophonia

Terrarian
Hello! I am a long time fan with Misophonia who has almost 1,000 hours in Terraria, and I have found myself discouraged from playing the game due to the sound made when the character eats or drinks anything. Misophonia is where someone can become irrationally panicked or angry by heading very specific sounds like eating or drinking. I am able to play without buffs, but it significantly reduces how often I want to play the game. If it is possible, it would be nice to have an accessibility option to replace those noises with different ones or even turn them off. The first one that comes to mind is the mana star/ life crystal consumption sound, but anything is better than what it is now.
Thanks for your consideration, I’m sure others in the community with my same condition will appreciate this.

Just turn down Sound effects, take the buffs/consumables without sound, then turn it back on. Doesn't need to be an accessibility option.

I'm that way with a few of the noises in the game (mostly the noises summon items make) and honestly what I do is I just turn the volume off whenever I'm about to do any of those things, it's easy to do.

This makes me wish Resource Packs worked for game sound effects as well.

I know this game has a lot of sound design that can set off all sorts of random things. I know people that are very jumpy and sudden loud sounds they can't anticipate (like in-game thunder) sets them off.

It's fairly easy to mod these sounds out on PC, though, and if anything this just tells me I guess I have a few more things to consider looking for.

Accessibility options are always welcome but why can't you mute for a second, use buffs and move on? I guess you can't easily mute for healing mid boss but still.

Actually, they do! If OP wants to they can provide me with a full list of bothersome sound effects and I can mute/replace those specific sounds with a resource pack if they want. Hopefully they’re on PC so they can use it. Resource packs can replace sprites, songs, text, and sound effects, for future reference

These kind of situations are why I wish mobile and console had resource pack support. It’s kinda wild to me that they don’t, with how insanely important for accessibility they can be:sigh:

Like, sure, you can mute the ingame sound before buffing up, but what if you want to play multiplayer with friends? What if you want to use a specific weapon but the sound is too high pitched too? What if a fallen star’s screeching sound as it falls is too loud? You kinda can’t prepare for everything, so handwaving it and saying “just turn off the sound when relevant” is misguided at best.

Mods, resource packs, and pausing to mute aside, I do think this should be included, and I see no valid argument against it. I know Terraria released many years ago now, but I'm sure it's well put together enough under the hood that setting an option to change certain item use sounds wouldn't take long at all. I mean if you've been keeping up with the spoilers Chippy has been posting, much more complex features have been prototyped obscenely quickly, and this is not something that would need much more than a quick prototype. It's not like it'd be a significant loss of developer time or resources to implement, and I've known plenty of people with misophonia. It's more than common enough to warrant a small inclusion like that to allow sufferers to mitigate it.
