Game Mechanics Adjusting enemy spawn rates during boss fights

Was wondering if there could be any touch up on either a passive decrease in enemy spawn rates when a boss is active, or even removing spawns altogether. All too often have I not died by the boss itself (like empress during the day), but a slime that bumps me into her, or does half my health (In master mode for the worthy).

thats already a thing, bosses and their minions take up a significant amount of the enemy cap

Not to the degree that Calamity mod does, which is more what I'm envisioning. I die more to mobs during bosses than the bosses themselves.
