Weapons & Equip Alchemist's Doctrine

Goblin Mage

The Destroyer
An equipable that, when equipped, allows you to have a single potion effect for as long as you keep the item equipped.

The potion chosen is the first potion you drink after equipping it.

It's place in progression would depend on how powerful it is, if it's broken because of some potion I forgot existed then it can be post moonlord, if not then maybe post planterra, or even just hardmode.

This would just become "Permanent Lifeforce Potion Accessory".

Lifeforce is one of the most difficult potions to obtain, with the most potent and universal buffs of any potion.

I'm also not sure how this would work with the red potion.
lifeforce would be one useful one, and you would probably use that for bosses as its hard to get
but for general use i could switch the potions pretty often (building potion, swiftness, the one that makes u glow, ect)

While I dont think infinite of anything is a good idea, this suggestion would basically trade an accessory slot for a permanent buff instead. This could be ironskin, for a +8 defense accessory, Speed, or a permanent molten charm? I did also suggest a permanent spelunker accessory (Weapons & Equip - Thermal/Spelunker Vision Goggles) so this would simply be an alternative. So I think the main buffs this would be an issue with would be ironskin, obsidianskin, gills, and gravity

@Goblin Mage Correct me if I am wrong, but in the case multiple potions are drunk one after another, the last one stops ticking down at 1 second, while the others expire. If you then want to reapply more potions, the original one preserved by this accessory would be replaced, so it would really only be good for convenience buffs like speed or ironskin outside of boss fights

Whatever order the buffs are internally applied, it would keep the last one, not all of them

Building potion already lasts 45 minutes. Shine potion is easy to work around with flares and a light pet which you should probably have.

Swiftness would be the pick for early game.

the item works with the potion's buffs, not the potion itself
so the red potion wouldn't do anything as it applies debuffs, the way you cancel the affect is either right clicking the icon or taking the item off.

However its true that it is just an alternative for some items, which is a problem

The Red Potion will grant 3 random buffs all at once if you're in a For The Worthy or Getfixedboi seed.

If this were hardmode, I dont think it is a problem.. except for a few specific buffs like gravity, gills, obsidianskin, and spelunker. Maybe if it didn't work for a few specific buffs, but everything else is fine?

Actually, we could perhaps avoid this issue altogether by simply adding an accessory to extend rather than make permanent. I just remembered I posted in idea for this which you should check out: Items - Potion Ring (extends potion time)

The main reason i made this is because i find it stressful using building potions as they have a timer, i can't build in peace while a timer is ticking down in the corner lmao.

Something to increase potion time is a good solution to the problems, but doesn't fix the core issue im trying to fix

arent there already accessories for buffing building speed? just use those? plus, if its the building potion youre getting at here, its forty five minutes!! You can also just have amber gem trees for as much as you want.

yeah i use the accessories, but the potion is an additional buff on top of that.
ik the potion is very generous, but my brain hates timers lmao, it doesnt matter how easy it is to farm.

yep same here, it's the main reason why i usually don't craft/use potions (and if i do, i make sure to have like twenty of them at minimum)

as mentioned above, lifeforce would definitely be OP, and i agree with those that said it'd be better to have something that merely extends the time

Lifeforce (or any other relatively rare potion) would absolutely not be OP with this. Basically any rare (i.e. requires fishing) potion is only useful when fighting a boss/event, so you really only need a few of them. Spending an accessory slot for the effect basically just saves you a bit of fishing for the price of an entire accessory slot, which isn't a worthwhile tradeoff imo. The only practical use case for permanent lifeforce imo would be on hardcore legendary to make getting OHKO'd less likely (on other hardcore difficulties, OHKOs are rare and avoidable).

I would basically never use this item if it existed since you don't need too many of the rare potions during a playthrough (only enough for bosses/events), and for the non-rare potions I can simply just craft enough of them that I can use them whenever I want, since I make a decently sized herb garden that gives me access to virtually unlimited herbs (pic related). This is to say, I have literally zero issues with this being added to the game in its current state.

I concur with @chewythebigblackdog, potions are already so ridiculously easy to craft in bulk if you do even the smallest amount of preparation that I can't possibly see how this would break anything. The best use for it would be Lifeforce Potion, as others have said, but you can already just make and drink those anyway; this accessory simply saves you that time spent fishing/gathering and crafting rather than actually increasing your maximum power. In fact, it  reduces your maximum power because it costs you an accessory slot that could have provided something in addition to the potion.

I personally wouldn't use it because I actually enjoy farming for and crafting potions and this would detract from that (in addition to being worse power-wise than just simply drinking more potions), but I can't see any problems with it being in the game for people who find that process boring or tedious. I support this item!

Honestly this seems underpowered as an accessory. Potion buffs have no opportunity cost so having an accessory which emulates them is almost always worse than just using the potion (especially with how universally cheap most potions in the game are), and this accessory is functionally just a “wild card” for potion emulation. You can’t even stack it with the regular potion either.

That being said, it is a good addition to the game with a really cool effect you could probably use for some quality of life purposes, so I really like this. You could probably get away with putting it anywhere in the entire game progression wise, though it’s thematically and functionally interesting enough that you might want to put it post-skeletron at the earliest.

yeah its intended to be a utility item like the hand of creation, not something used against bosses, since you can just use normal potions for those
