Official Announcement regarding changes to conversations (private messages)

Pretty much the same as Johnathan is, the conversations aren't private anyways. The mods can and do view them
The mods have said that is not the case, actually.

Saw this at the top of "Whats new" and thought they made another change

This is incorrect. The forum staff has never said that we can and do view direct messages, and we have never done so. We have never been able to view direct messages that we are not in.

The only way the forum staff can see a direct message is if a post in a direct message gets reported, yes, we do see that one post. Or if we are invited into a direct message - in which case, everyone in the direct message can see that we are included in it. We are not and cannot look into your direct messages.

Having said that, all posts on the forums - including direct messages (even if they don't include a forum staff member) - are subject to forum rules.

Respectful. I like it. I wasn't here before the change, but as a hot take, 10 sounds a little more reasonable for the limit of people.

Yeah. Five members is objectively a low number for convos. Seven or eight is good as well, but five is just too low.

Hmm...

I might opt to, uh, create a backup of the conversation with code and stuff. This might be inconvenient seeing as there isn't an easy way of backing one up, and that you have to do that manually, but I would think that it's a great way to effectively "bypass the limit"? It'd allow you to archive the convos you cherish, and you don't have to actually create a program to back it up. The only tricky thing is that you also need to download the images in the conversation, and text with images is far more difficult to manage than just pure text.

Anyway, I would think 15k is sorta okay. It's not much in the long term, but it's definitely more than enough when you need to negotiate something with someone briefly and/or have a small chat.

It's still a bit inconvenient to chat with persons with inbox full in PMs, they'll have to edit their posts instead of giving you direct notifications.
