Usually, when antlions throws sand, the blocks just land normally, or depending on the block, may destroy the tile for you to pick up. In this case it is neither. It appears that when the antlion's sand hits platform stairs, parts of it gets destroyed and you fall through the stairs when walking up or down them. The stairs cannot be found below to be picked up. They are, well, just deleted. I am unaware if this is a 1.4 exclusive bug.
