NPCs & Enemies Are you disappointed with the lack of low-level enemies in the Forest Biome? Introducing: THE DIRT DOBBER!

The Grimwar

Terrarian
For context, I have been clearing out this new house I bought, and dear God, when I stepped into the shed there were SO MANY Dirt Dobber nests! But as I cleared them out, that got me thinking... hey, this would be an excellent enemy to add to Terraria!

Dirt Dobbers are a species of wasp who, as their name implies, build their nests by dobbing dirt onto any surface! How these guys would work in Terraria is that they would only spawn once their nests are destroyed. As for where their nests would show up they would spawn exclusively on the sides of trees in the Forest Biome during night, and would be more likely to spawn on trees with no canopies. The nests would be made of dirt, and destroying them has a guaranteed chance to spawn a single bee type enemy, the Dirt Dobber Wasp, that would immediately fly in to attack you, and a 75% chance to spawn a block of dirt. These nests can be destroyed with a pickaxe, and will be destroyed when the tree they're attached to is chopped down.

As for the enemy itself: the DIRT DOBBER's stats will be identical to the bees spawned by destroying hives in every way, except they won't be able to envenomate you, and only spawn one at a time.

For the sake of player ease, Dirt Dobber nests will not exist at the start of the game, granting you plenty of time to get a wooden sword that can do away with the consequences of logging. And also, when coming into contact with a bird, the bird will kill the Dirt Dobber in a single hit, restoring any health the animal may have lost, and birds will actively home in on any Dirt Dobbers that are in the area.

As besides the loot, besides the dirt from destroying their nests, I think that's for the devs to decide.

EDIT: After reviewing the actual stats of the Bees, I have decided that the Dirt Dobber should have half the damage and health points of bees.

Surface/Forest Biome is intended to be "easy"

You have to consider what is the beginning biome and the easiest to explore for new players

Make it more difficult is a bad idea

This won't make it that much harder at all, so I'll repeat.

These wasps would have the same stats as a bee, and therefore would be easier to deal with, however, only one would spawn from each nest, and they can't poison you, and above all they get absolutely obliterated by the 5 health birds that are flying around, so, no, this won't make it that much harder at all!

Let me show you something.

Boxed in blue are the stats these things will have in the start of the game. These bees will obliterate a new player in moments.

Pass.

...why would a new player be jumping straight into master mode though?

Okay, it's been a while since I saw those thing's stats, a stat nerf is in order, by roughly half.

I always heard them called Mud Dobbers but sure
