Personally, I'd try to only use it for things that wouldn't get done otherwise.
Whatever would hurt the most at any time.
Can I even make eye contact? I mean, I guess if the screen counts, then that would be another solution for the ones who won't be persuaded.
I'm just concerned I'd end up using it on myself. How would that even work?
Would certainly create some new ways to deal with targets.
Probably just use it in case of problems.

A fair bit I'd say. I mean, first you've got the getting hit part, which some hatchlings could be quite heavy, so that of course would hurt, but then there's also the matter of how the hatchling would react.
