Mobile Attempting to host mobile IOS server with friend

Hello, new to the game and excited to play with my friend who is very experienced. I am using an Apple Ipad Air 2 and my secondary is a Iphone XS. I followed the guide as closely as I could to create a server for online use. I port forwarded my IP with Xfinity internet under port 7777. Everytime I reload Xfinity it verifies my IPAD has port forwarded to 7777 with the proper IP. Then I go to multiplayer, online, and ADD where I enter my internal IP address that is linked to my port forward. At this point I am stuck in Connecting to 10.**********:7777 I waited 10 minutes with no change. I then retried port forwarding multiple times. I port forwarded my Iphone instead to try that. I tried my 2.4 and 5.0 frequencies incase it was a WIFI issue. I attempted to host on both devices with same situation. Xfinity seems to be pretty clear about being port forwarded my ipad. I don't see anything else in the guide that can help me at this point.

Id love to play this game and experience it, I can definitely see it's up my alley. But I really don't want to play with out my best friend. Can anyone direct me to similar situations or what steps to trouble shoot next please? Thank you,

What device is hosting the server? What device are you attempting to play on? After you port forward and start up the server check your ports here: Port Checker - Check Open Ports Online

So I would like to both play and host on my Ipad Air 2. When I go to that link it shows my external Ip4 I believe? Then am I supposed to change the default port number to 7777 as I set it? If so, I changed it to 7777 but it showed closed However, I did my port forward using my internal Ip4 which is the one on my Ipad wifi information area, IP address. When I set up my port forwarding on Xfinity, they now dont let you do anything complicated. It only lets you choose your device and your Port number. It wont let you enter the IP number. But it showed the same IP number automatically that my Ipad shows when I click on the internal address.

If you're both hosting and playing on a mobile device then you don't enter in an IP. Only others trying to join you use an IP.

You should be clicking host on the local tab.

Wait, so even though my friend is in another city, I just give him my external IP and he should be able to join a local game I host?
