Hey guys! Here is my idea about balancing the classes!
So, in Terraria, there are five classes - Melee, Ranged, Magic, Summoning, and Throwing, based of weapon damage, but it's never been very balanced. While Melee, Ranged, and Magic are balanced, Summoning is playable but pretty tough. As for Throwing, you can't do much after beating the WoF with a Throwing character, since there is no Hardmode Throwing gear, and the monsters are just too strong for pre-Hardmode stuff. So, I'm going to try and balance the classes, starting with weapons.
The first problem is that there are only three pre-Hardmode summoning weapons. We'll tackle the Throwing weapons later; this is definitely more important.
One of the main problems isn't just that there are only a few, it's that of progression.
If you don't get a Slime Statue, chances are that you won't get a Slime Staff. While the Imp Staff technically requires no boss defeated for it, because of the Reaver Shark, the Reaver Shark is pretty rare, so without it you need a Nightmare/Deathbringer Pickaxe for Hellstone, making it so that you need to kill the EoW or BoC. Obviously, the Hornet Staff needs the Queen Bee, seeing as how its material comes from the boss itself.
So, there needs to be a Summoning weapon before defeating bosses, right? There are multiple pre-boss weapons of other classes, but except the exceptionally rare Slime Staff, there are none (Imp Staff is an exception, based on damage, it isn't meant for pre-bosses, more like around Skeletron). So, we need some sort of basic Summoning staff.
One of the first ideas that comes to mind is making the Slime Staff craftable, which is a good idea. It's just that making the Slime Staff with just Wood and Gel is a bit too easy, so I had to use something else. Because of this, I have created the Gooey Core!
With this, I made a new crafting recipe:
30 Wood + 40 Gel + 1 Gooey Core
= 1 Slime Staff

Gooey Core - 2% chance of dropping from any type of Slime. So, on average, you will get one once you kill 50 Slimes.
