Terrarian
Having recently see popping up a lot of new people Playing Terraria i realized a common trend of this being treated like a wiki game which it isn't but it is but it is not.
Seeing the new players they always seem to struggle with the same things and those things boil down to they don't use the NPCs so they don't know what to do so they have to struggle or look it up. This is down to a point where most people don't get what the "Craft" button of the Guide does or don't even realize it exists.
The Thing is that Terraria has aa lot of tools in Game to tell you where you need to be or what you can do (say about the Angler what you want but he is the pre Hardmode way to know about Sky Islands through Fishing Quests, while he himself is i'm pretty sure mentioned to exist by other NPCs). The real issue what makes it a Wiki Game is that how the Game tells you makes it to easy to ignore the Tips.
My Idea was that the best answer is a Resource Pack that alters NPC Dialogue and some Item Descriptions. If it is done right can you say to a new Player:
"I know this may sound bad but use this Resource Pack and it will fix all the accumulated issues from a Game having the Same Tutorial as it had 5000 Items ago. You still get the Full experience just updated to the current State of the Game"
The great Part about Resource Packs is that they are Vanilla compatible meaning no telling someone with 0 Seconds in the game just download this modding tool and these 10 mods that make the game better when they don't even know what the normal game is.
Important would be to keep the Exploration aspect. No Mom Resource Pack telling you the exact sub stepp you need to take every Step but instead slightly altering Wording to demystify certain things. As an Example i just made on the Buss on my Phone so don't take this to serious as a final Version:
"Hi you're new here. I am what People may call the Guide tho seem they to think I am just a Workbench. If you need HELP just talk to me. No one beats me in creativity of what to CRAFT from just about anything."
Terraria does allow colored text even if I have only tested it in the Bestiary for now. The big advantage is to force someone to pay attention to what NPCs say no matter how much they glance over the text.
The first few things would need to be stated a bit more aggressive just so that People know what they have as options to figure Stuff out like Achievements guiding you what to do next just not being seen by players as they just see a black Box next to the Inventory that easily is to unimportant to ever hover the Mouse above it.
Then are there some Items with poor Word choices or omitting important parts. It is never stated by the game that Bosses are Time and Biome sensitive meaning new Players stand no chance to know why the Suspicious Looking eye cannot be used. Additionally is something like the Heavy Workbench's description not read as "This does absolutely nothing for Game progression and only exists to create Decorative Stuff that has absolutely 0 Gameplay purpose" but instead as "Used for advanced crafting".
Getting something like this right is not a 1 Man Army task so I am diong a vibe check what others think of that Idea.
